While I was Driving, 17: Car License Plates for Quadriplegic and Others

Below's license plate is likely referring to the future, other-worldly  hope of paralyzed, quadriplegic Christian writer, Joni Eareckson Tada.  She also recently got infected with Covid-19 😕

We are the E Family -- and we  certainly love our 2 sons!

The ultimate Physician and healer of our souls -- the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth!

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4 )

An Important Date: June 9th

Saw the car license plate, and of course I got to thinking:  What makes June 9 significant (for a Democrat, perhaps)?

Here are a few noteworthy events occuring on the 9th of June.  Scroll to the very bottom of list for an "auspicious" event:

AD 68  Nero, Roman Emperor died

1822  Charles Graham patents false teeth

1870 Charles Dickens died

1898 China leases Hong Kong's new territories to the United Kingdom for 99 years

1909 Alice Huyler Ramsey, 22-year-old housewife from Hackensack, New Jersey, becomes the 1st woman to drive across the US, in a Maxwell 30, drives 3,800 miles from Manhattan to San Francisco in 59 days

While I was Driving, 14: Christmas Babies & License Plate

1.  I know a baby (my cousin) born on Christmas day.

2. However, another far more important baby whom the entire world remembers on Christmas day is Christ Jesus, the Lord (who in reality was very likely born in the Springtime and not during Wintertime).

Whatever day the Lord Jesus Christ was born, it's His birth (predicted hundreds of years before he was actually born!) that I celebrate at our Christmas parties and on Christmas day. He alone is worthy of my worship.

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (Matthew 1: 23)

Isaiah wrote the above prophecy in the 8th century BC.
Accurate much?!!

Guy and Pip License Plate: Happy Birthday Nora Aunor!

I have a strong feeling that the car owner is from the Philippines.

"Guy" refers to actress Nora Aunor (birthday, May 21st) and "Pip" is actor Tirso Cruz III . They were a mega-popular couple back in the day.

Nora was a nobody -- born poor, but catapulted to fame & fortune thru her singing ability.  Tirso sang also; so handsome that every girl from Housemaid to Grandma had a crush on him.  If Nora the plain-looking girl could attract such a handsome prince,  there was hope for the rest of us common folk. Sort of reminds me of the  Meghan Markle and Prince Harry romance, LoL.

While I Was Driving, 8: Cars and License Plates

I drive my son to school daily which is the reason I cannot help but keep an eye-out for interesting license plates. That, and the accessibility of my cell phone is why I have many pictures.  Here are a few more:

Nails in our Car Tire

On this Easter 2011 weekend, nails are in the news. These particular nails were discovered  embedded in the wheels of our Crown Vics during a routine check-through yesterday.  Very likely picked up through the many miles logged by each vehicle.  Now we know the source of their sloooooow leaks.

Whew. At least the wheels  did not blow up while the cars were going 65+ miles/hour, on a busy highway, during a slippery rainstorm/snowstorm.    I can only imagine the disasters we may have averted by the mercy of God on us. Thank you, Lord Jesus!

So, to anyone reading this, if your car tires  seem to lose tire pressure repeatedly, have them checked out, 'kay?

Kentucky Wedding

As we got ready to exit on Rt 335 from I-57, we heard it. A thumping, somewhat grinding sound from the left side of me (sitting in the second row, right side). A slight burning smell also.

Pull over, says hubby to our son, the driver.
Jared had just been manipulating the cruise control, but pulled over safely to the shoulder.
An hour away from home, on our way to Eric and Laura's wedding in KY, and now this!

What's the problem here??!!! Engine starts, but shifting gear resulted in stalling.
We weren't going anywhere.  Off in the distance, to the right, is the exit to Monee.
To the left, is McD's. And bathrooms. I needed to go. Sigh.

Called Geico. Very, very nice black lady on the phone.
Within a half hour, a confirmation from Superior Towing (driver Tom).
But no Taxis in the area. Huh?! Let's call non-emergency Police for help.
Over an hour later, Monee Town Police shows up.
Two minutes after that, Illinois State Police shows up (Officer  Powell with an assistant, license plate 5-43).
Monee Police is a no-go.  It's against their regulations to take us anywhere except to the nearest gas station.
Tow truck can only fit two more people. State Police could also fit only two.  But there were 6 of us!
Rules were bent and winked at...off we ALL go. Must go backwards 5 miles to a Dodge dealership - hallelujah!- in Matteson. Meanwhile, I am being transported in the back seat of a Police car.

Two hours of waiting at Denny Guests' Southoak Dodge. Problem: blown out/bad ignition coil.
It was an original part. Bound to break, sooner or later. A nice office lady made us feel better by giving us Coke with ice.  Finally... 4 hours after break down, the car is fixed. Kentucky, here we come!

Officer Powell said if we had stalled around Kankakee, there would have been no one (meaning, car service) around for many, many miles. Realized later that had we passed Kankakee, in the backwoods area of Illinois, we would have ended up sleeping in the van while awaiting help 'coz NOBODY would have found us till the next day. The area was similar to the "Deliverence" movie in remoteness (I could be exaggerating here, but that's what it seemed like to me).  It would have been worse than trying to find Janice's dad's wake.

Finally made it at the hotel (Fairview Inn) at 9:15 pm. Had we not been delayed, we would have been here by 4 pm. Now, there was no time for the pool. At leasts there was wi-fi. Plus, below  was the glorious view outside our rooms' windows. We don't have this around our town. Yet.

Our morning meals were also included in our rate (unlike our friends who rented from Marriott).

Breakfast:
Jimmy Dean Sausage, Egg and Cheese Biscuit
Jimmy Dean Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit
Ham, Egg, Cheddar Quiche
Otis Spunkmeyer Apple Cinnamon Muffin
Dannon Light Fit Strawberry Yogurt
Orange Juice
Hard-boiled eggs
Coffee
