Remembering Baptist Preacher Charles Spurgeon

... passed from this life into the next life 126 years ago today. No doubt about it -- he is in heaven with his beloved Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Not because Charles was good enough or because of his job title, but that he accepted the Saviour into his heart by faith. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Mr Spurgeon's wise words live on:

"'Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.' It is a goal to try and make any Christian happy, but especially a young believer, whose weakness needs great gentleness. To clothe religion with gloom is to slander the name of Christ. We should always be eager to prevent young believers from imagining that to follow Christ is to walk in darkness. It is not so! Has he not himself said, 'He that follows me shall not walk in darkness'? Did not the wise man say concerning wisdom, 'Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace'?" - Spurgeon

Bathroom Renovation: Wall Tile

We are planning to gut our downstairs bathroom.
My mind is inundated with WALLs recently (must be because of plans for a certain high wall South of the US border).

Here are a few pictures we took during a quick visit to 3 Home-improvement stores. We wanted to get a feel for the stores' layout; to know what's what, and where's where. Also, some pictures online.

So many choices! Wall to wall, and floor to ceiling's worth of choices.  How do I know which items are of quality? Is a high price an indication of something well-made? What's my color scheme?  Do we order now or wait? And, boy, do I feel ignorant on certain subjects!

I felt a little overwhelmed afterwards. We haven't even chosen our Contractor, for pete's sake!   Not even fast-food dinner from McDonald's could rid me of my low-grade feelings of anxiety.

I must begin with what is most certain: my choice of shower wall (give or take a few, slight variations). Other decor choices will need to fall into place centered on this particular choice.     pc: betahoome.blogspot

Arthur Rubinstein: Mozart Piano Concerto No. 21 + Commentary

Remembering Polish-American Piano prodigy, Arthur Rubinstein (January 28, 1887 – December 20, 1982) on his date of birth.  He is considered one of the best Pianists of the 20th century.  We love his performance of W.A. Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major:

Bathroom Renovation: Black Framed Shower Doors are Hot!

We had been living with opaque, boring, plain glass sliding shower doors for over 25 years. They look awful. Time for a show-stopper! We wanted a sleek, minimalist look with neutral colours for our bathroom re-do.

These designs will do the trick. Several options are available, but so far I prefer the frame in black.

Personal Success in Year 2018

As I get older, I realize that much more how fleeting the time and how wasteful the hostilities & bad habits.

Goals remain that are yet to be reached. One of them is renovating our downstairs bathroom. We've talked about it for years! Our budget remains limited; but it's time to get a hold of this problem and just.do.it.

Here are some ideas from FORBES  on how to reach goals successfully in Year 2018 and beyond.

by Jennifer Cohen
Continual activity directed towards a goal creates a sense of momentum or as I like to say progress. In other words your habits determine your progress and overall your successes and failures. We all have good and bad habits that are derived from the relatively small decisions we make every day. In turn, our habits are directly correlated and caused by our minuscule day to day choices.
Success is actually a short race - a sprint fueled by discipline just long enough for habit to kick in and take over.” - Gary Keller, The One Thing
Instead of hearing about habits from me I figured I would pick the brains of those far smarter than I. Amazing people like, Elon Musk, Gary Keller, Napoleon Hill, Stephen R. Covey and more!
Habit 1, From The One Thing
Cut The Crap. What Do You Really Need To Get Done?
In a world of constant stimulation everything can feel like it is an immediate priority. A common mistake many make is falling victim to too much opportunity and for lack of a better word, distraction. Trying to do too much at any given time forces you to not give projects the time and dedication they need to be done exceptionally well. As Gary Keller states in The One Thing “Success is about doing the right thing, not about doing everything right.” Although many things will pull at you throughout your day you must narrow your focus to the one thing you need to do to make progress in your goals. I talked about progress and the massive life changing power behind it in my last article!
How to do it:
Gary Keller’s advice for fighting distraction is to start blocking your schedule. For example allocate 3 hours every morning from 9am to 12 in order to do your one thing. Don’t allow emails, kids, eating, or anything else to distract you from getting this important work done. Those can come before or after but NOT during. “Where I’d had huge success, I had narrowed my concentration to one thing, and where my success varied, my focus had too.” - Gary Keller

Coffee: Cappucinno Punch for Your Next Party

Tried this delicious drink for the first time at our annual church Christmas Party. It was a hit! What a treat for your next gathering --- a Valentine's Day Party, perhaps?  It'll be the perfect ice-breaker as People won't be able to help but congregate around the Punch Bowl.

  • 1/4 cup instant coffee granules
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 quarts whole milk
  • 1 quart vanilla ice cream, softened
  • 1-quart chocolate ice cream, softened
  • Grated chocolate, optional

DIRECTIONS

Combine sugar and coffee; stir in boiling water until dissolved. Cover and refrigerate until chilled.
Just before serving, pour coffee mixture into a 1-gal. punch bowl. Stir in milk. Add scoops of ice cream; stir until melted. If desired, sprinkle with grated chocolate. Yield: about 1 gallon.

RNC: How Dare Michelle Obama!

Michelle Obama (whose birthday is January 17th -- Happy BDay!) said that women only voted for President Trump because we were told to. She said we voted against our own voices.

How DARE sheI’m a woman and I proudly voted for President Donald Trump out of my own free will -- not because a man told me to.

Democrats love to call themselves “feminists” but the second a woman doesn’t fall in line with their liberal ideology, she’s attacked, silenced, and subjected to the very same sexist attacks liberals pretend to fight.

Michelle Obama didn’t even stop there. She said that people don’t trust politics because Republicans are all just white men.

...Maybe we don’t trust politicians because they don’t listen to us and instead tell us how we’re supposed to think, feel, and vote.

...Or maybe it’s because of politicians like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton who have abused their powers, weakened our country, and disparaged tens of millions of Americans as deplorables who cling to their religion.

I voted to drain the swamp. I voted for the wall. I voted for tougher screenings of refugees. I voted for tax cuts. I voted for a repeal of ObamaCare. I voted for a stronger economy. I voted for an America- First foreign policy.

And if that’s the agenda you want to see become the law of the land, then I need you to join me in our efforts to defend the President right now.
