Survey Winner: Best Luxury Hotel in the World

Although Donald Trump’s presidency has brought a lot of controversy and disagreements among the American people, it seems there is one thing that luxury travelers all agree on. The Trump Organization runs a good hotel. According to voters in an exclusive luxury travel magazine, the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Manhattan was voted the best hotel in the world, beating out other great locations including those in the Middle East.

The property, which overlooks the southwestern corner of Central Park, narrow beat out the amazing  Vatuvara Private Island in Fiji that has entertained guests including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. That Pacific Island resort was named the second-best hotel in the world.

The reader survey that asked well-traveled people to rate their “travel experience” at certain locations resulted in the Trump Organization property being labeled the “best hotel in the world.”
The second-place winner was the resort in Fiji while third place went to the immaculate Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, which won the best luxury location in the world in the same survey last year.

Other top rated places include the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, which placed fourth and the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort, which took fifth place.
According to Daily Mail, the remaining properties on the list were Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas (sixth); The Langham, Sydney, Australia (seventh); The Dorchester, London (eighth); Trump International Hotel Washington, D.C. (ninth) and The Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois, Basel, in Switzerland (10th).

The magazine is based in the United Kingdom and features readers who love shelling out thousands of dollars for luxury travel. They’re among the best-traveled people around the globe.

According to Trump’s winning hotel’s website: “At Trump International Hotel & Tower, we are renowned for our iconic building, unparalleled views, and luxurious amenities. The newly designed guest rooms, suites, and hallways create an ultra sophisticated ambiance capturing the hotel’s vibrant New York City location. Offering a more contemporary look, the design is inspired by our view of the Central Park, and the energy of Columbus Circle. From your first step off the elevator, the woven wooden wall, sparkling crystal chandeliers, and custom wall sconces create a youthful elegance. Walls are covered with a soft gray palette and crisp white crown molding. Fabrics were selected in a variety of textures to stimulate the sensorial experience. Discover the design elements that reflect a youthful, energetic, and luxurious new experience at Trump International Hotel & Tower New York!”

While Trump’s politics are often in question, the fact that this hotel is great is not. Without a doubt, international travelers respect this New York hotel and recognize it as one of the best in the world. This year it took home the top spot, which was a mighty honor for the hotel based beside Central Park.

Editor-in-chief of Luxury Lifestyle Magazine, Nick Gibbens, “‘He clearly divides opinion on a political level, but there is no question about it, Trump is a master hotelier. He understands what super luxury is all about and delivers the very best experience possible, usually exceeding expectations.”

Bucket List: MacKenzie-Childs Barn Sale 2019 Day #1

I want!
Left our Niagara Falls hotel -- the final leg of our wonderful Ontario get-together with Family -- by 10:00 am or so and raced towards Aurora, New York for MC's first day of their annual Barn Sale.  It would be our very first time to attend. Fulfilling my bucket list!

Arrived at 3 pm. Lots of cars in the make-shift parking lot on the grounds of MC and hubby randomly picked a spot to park.  We were novices through and through:  where do we go, what should we expect, were we dressed properly for the day?

Bottom line: Long lines, warm day, but we got through the crowded Day #1 event unscathed, yay.  Available space for our haul in our car and the steep cost (even at 50% off) was foremost on my  mind.  So, I only bought the top 2 items on my shopping list, plus one more.  No time to search through the Rugs and I did not even step into the enamelware-sale building. But, who cares? It was great to be there at last!!!

There were only a few large blowing fans during this humid day, but getting away from the tented areas was the key.  The event was memorable not only for what I purchased, but for a couple of unexpected meetings.

I spoke to Rebecca Proctor, MC's Creative Director --  twice!  I tapped her on the shoulder when I first caught sight of her distinctive style from behind (loud courtly check pants, red hair, wedge haircut) and mentioned that I had taken note of her IG  posts about her Pianist son.  Gestured towards my own son and mentioned his Clarinetist endeavors.  She proudly mentioned her son's Summer session at a prestigious Music event.  On our way to check -out she smiled  and spoke to us again.  I was slightly shocked that she had deliberately sought us out in the line and stuttered my responses, LoL.  I totally forgot to take a pictures with her, yipes.

Also met a nicely-dressed family of MC fans from NJ and their laid-back, pampered Persian cat named Gucci which they pushed around in a baby buggy. I also liked her nails, and her hubby noticed my nails, my chevron dress -- and complimented me. The man would do well as a Politician -- friendly, smiley, accommodating -- has good people skills overall.

Dessert: Ginataang Bilo Bilo (Sticky Rice Balls In Coco Milk)

Love this chewy dessert!  Hubby makes each member of our  family's heart sing whenever he cooks a favorite such as this.  Made to taste even more delicious by cooking and storing it in my beautiful MacKenzie-Childs stock pot.

Hubby does not actually follow an official recipe ...just makes it up as he goes.  Main ingredients are: glutinous rice, plantain, sweet potatoes, taro root, coconut milk. May be eaten hot or cold.

 Others' recipes in link below.

Nail Art: Part 3, Seasonal Ombre Color

I've noticed a trend to what attracts me in nail colors: I seem to like OmbrĂ©.

At times a single color bores me, I suppose.
Except perhaps on toes

Mirrors That are Good Enough to Hang as Art

Who does not love a pretty mirror?!!  Why not let them double as fine art too?  Some can cost an arm and a leg (mine were quite affordable).  Remember, there is always an option B, or an option C if you're watching your budget.

Gold & Diamond Cocktail Ring

I feel smart to have purchased this 3 ct diamond ring at a bargain price compared to a recent advertised price of $2999 (retail $5799 on Macy's site).

I was even happier when Hubby congratulated me on my bargain-shopping skills.

I need to be content, though, as part of our funds are now set aside to pay for our renovations.  For now, no more purchases of luxury items solely to please moi!

Pure Gold prices have been going up!
Most likely caused by USA's tensions with Russia and Syria.  Price is $1300+ per ounce as of today's writing.  It has yet to reach the high of $1900+ per ounce in Year 2011.

Find out a gold piece's current value with the calculator link below. I resort to using the calculator when contemplating a jewelry purchase on eBay.
