USMCA: Canada Has the Ball in its Corner

In June 2019, Mexico became the first country to ratify the deal. On January 29, 2020, President  officially signed the USMCA. Now, it's your turn, Canada. Get a move on! It will take another 90 days after all 3 countries have signed the deal for it to take effect.

Here is a review of what's in the USMCA, courtesy of V O X

Here’s a brief overview of what’s in it:
  • Country of origin rules: Automobiles must have 75 percent of their components manufactured in Mexico, the US, or Canada to qualify for zero tariffs (up from 62.5 percent under NAFTA).
  • Labor provisions: 40 to 45 percent of automobile parts must be made by workers who earn at least $16 an hour by 2023. Mexico agreed to pass new labor laws to give greater protections to workers, including migrants and women. Most notably, these laws are supposed to make it easier for Mexican workers to unionize.
  • US farmers get more access to the Canadian dairy market: The US got Canada to open up its dairy market to US farmers, a big issue for Trump.
  • Intellectual property and digital trade: The deal extends the terms of copyright to 70 years beyond the life of the author (up from 50). It also includes new provisions to deal with the digital economy, such as prohibiting duties on things like music and ebooks, and protections for internet companies so they’re not liable for content their users produce.
  • Sunset clause: The agreement adds a 16-year sunset clause — meaning the terms of the agreement expire, or “sunset,” after 16 years. The deal is also subject to a review every six years, at which point the US, Mexico, and Canada can decide to extend the USMCA.

LIST: Top 20 Travel Destinations per AIRBNB

Surprisingly, Paris, France did not make it on this list for either Yr 2019 nor Yr 2020.  Surely people are missing-out on a fabulous city; one that remains the travel destination for many from around the globe.  But then, the Parisian visitors may not be using AIRBNB??

I am also very surprised at who got the #1 spot; but further reading gave the explanation.  BTW, years ago, I worked with a gal whose parents went to this town on their honeymoon.  She was so embarrassed on their behalf 'coz  in her estimation it was low on the totem-pole of exciting cities to visit, LoL.
Personally, #5, #8, #17 and #18 are on my bucket list. May the Lord God make it possible!

20 for 2020: Airbnb Reveals the 20 Destinations to Visit Next Year (w/ links) :

1. Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

2. Bilbao, Spain

5. Romania

10.  Vanuatu

17.  Tokyo, Japan

Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

The USA and a Mexican Miracle

In case you weren't aware:
a positive turn-of-event South of the border ...

our cute Mexican born & bred Pup
Former Mexican president  Felipe Calderón, during the Obama administration, quickly picked up on our then traitor-in-chief/president’s invitation to the world to use a wounded Constitutional America he was out to ruin as a welcome mat and a grab bag full of bleeding-heart-leftist-enabled entitlements. I remember the shock I experienced watching that wannabe dictator, floating stylishly on all the drug cartel money and funds wired home from illegals, standing in front of our House of Representatives, actually scolding Arizona and the United States for daring to prevent his people from ‘pursuing their dreams’ here in America. Of course when he said that he was met with a standing ovation from the oligarchic socialists on the left side of the aisle. Calderon has never been bashful about bashing the United States for even the right’s attempts at maintaining the integrity of our southern border. With Obama in office, he saw his opening. He probably even rehearsed his diatribe before Barack for his approval. In hindsight, can we doubt that?

Another one of Mexico’s presidents, Enrique Peña Nieto had to take his shot at President Trump for adopting what he called a “threatening” attitude toward Mexico. And then he even lauded the Mexican Senate for their round condemnation of what our President had said. Well Whoop Dee Doo!! The transient executive went on to prance around with all the grace and diplomacy of a Benito Mussolini. He rattled his imaginary sword further as he swaggered on ... “We will not allow negative rhetoric to define our actions. We will only act in the best interest of Mexicans.” To quote Darth Vader, “Impressive! Most impressive!” So, what he was really saying was, “We get American tv down here. We know that everybody on ‘The View’ makes fun of you, President Trump. We also know that - from the daytime soaps, to most all major network, liberal media newscasts - the fun and trendy faction in your nation is giving you hell. So we will join in that fun and cruise that momentum. And again President Trump is further vilified for his commitment to making the best interests of Americans his first priority.
But, am I going mad? (Too late.) Nevertheless, a brand-new kind of letter has shown up on the desk of our great President Donald J Trump! Mexico’s President-elect, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has forwarded a seven-page letter expressing among other things, his plan to boost the economy of Mexico, as well as their security, SO THAT HIS PEOPLE ’ ... NO LONGER FEEL IT NECESSARY TO MIGRATE!’ “There will be many changes ... And in this new atmosphere of progress and well-being, I’m sure we can reach agreements to confront together the migration phenomenon as well as the problem of border insecurity.” Again, I must be nuts! We now have a Mexican president who is actually going to encourage his people to work for a better Mexico?! What is going on? Donald Trump is going on.

Can you imagine that?! The leaders of this world are beginning, more and more, to respect and express a desire to work with an American President who actually possesses something other than a rubber spine. Despite how liberal-fake-news media has been scrambling to defuse and compromise President Trump and therefore our nation’s safety and predominance as a leading world power, the radiant truth and light of the MAN who will not bend is currently shining through the black night of broadcast dishonesty. The Mexican president-elect went on to say, “I am encouraged by the fact that we both know how to do what we say, and we have both faced adversity with success. We managed to put our voters and citizens at the center and displace the establishment.”
That is good president-elect Obrador’s way of saying, ‘Your authenticity and relentless effort is beginning to catch on, sir! I don’t think I’m going to kiss anyone’s behind down here, either!’ [Has he yet met with the Clintons? If so, will he suddenly become suicidal from his recent victory?] Obrador went on to express hope in devising a mutual plan, backed by public funds and other Central American countries, with the aim of making it “economically unnecessary” for the continued exodus of Central American and Mexican citizens into the United States!
That has to gall so many of our leftist polity who are absolutely depending upon flooding immigrants to tip the scales at the polls from here on out. Make no mistake, the damage has been done enough to date to give one pause. Nevertheless, the effects of real leadership are wafting all around a slowly awakening globe. And more and more people are seeing that the ‘One World’ dictators’ club may not quite have a shoo-in (no it’s not ‘shoe-in’) just yet. As time goes on, not even the fast dancing of a lying Clinton, Comey, Obama or a sinisterly sneering weirdo like the ‘FIB’ agent Strzock will be able to keep the world from seeing that, at the very least, only the worst characters and most miserable losers are left standing without chairs as the music is beginning to stop for the “Hate Trump Club”. Now all the third-rate actors, washed up politicos and shadow government slime have little left to lean on beyond a waning, ridiculous-looking Mueller and a more and more purchased-appearing, but definitely SOLD OUT Jeff Sessions.
Let’s make sure it’s Trump in 2020. He is, just like a gut-busting, hard-working Superman, beginning to fly fast enough to turn this world around. Keep him in your prayers, by all means. If the wolves ever get back in charge of our American Eagle’s nest, it will be all over but the crying.

US Immigration: The Border Wall Construction Begins

pc: AP
Per Mr Donald Trump's presidential campaign promises, construction of an American wall against illegal border crossings has begun in San Diego.

Surprise, surprise -- the idea of stopping the scourge of illegal immigration is nothing new.  If one were to call President Trump a hateful racist based on these walls, might as well call these two past, duly-elected, recent POTUSs the same.

“The construction of this new substantial wall will improve overall border security, the safety and effectiveness of Border Patrol agents, the safety of the public, and will enhance the atmosphere for business and commerce in the area. -- Rodney Scott, chief patrol agent for the San Diego sector

DACA Facts

Just the facts, Ma'm:  The vast majority of illegal aliens shielded by an Obama-created temporary amnesty program are adults over the age of 21-years-old, new federal data reveals.
Despite constant rhetoric from the mainstream media and pro-immigration politicians that nearly 800,000 illegal aliens shielded from deportation and given work permits under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program are “kids” and “children,” data from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) finds that 72 percent of DACA recipients are 21-years-old or older.

As Pew Research Center analyzed, the average age of DACA recipients is 24-years-old, far from the young age that Democrat and Republican establishment politicians like Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) have made the group of illegal aliens out to be.
The majority of DACA recipients, 37 percent, are between the age of 21 and 25-years-old, while another 24 percent are 26 to 30-years-old. More than 10 percent of DACA recipients are between the age of 31 and 36-years-old.
Both political establishments, corporate interest and the open borders lobby have been successful in labeling DACA recipients as mere children, with even President Trump touting the falsehood, calling the DACAs “incredible kids.”
Trump’s administration, via Attorney General Jeff Sessions, has said it will ultimately end DACA. With that announcement, though, has come a barrage of amnesty legislation from Democrats and the GOP establishment, where more than 3.3 million illegal aliens could receive a pathway to U.S. citizenship.
Any amnesty of illegal alien DACA recipients could result in not only a surge of hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens at the U.S.-Mexico border, but also a spike in chain migration, where four to eight million foreign nationals could get legal entry to the U.S., as Breitbart News reported.

Most recently, a former USCIS official said the DACA “fraud rate is 40 to 50 percent,” as Breitbart News reported.

Dogs of Summer 4: Our DACA Dog

Two, cute, 4-legged furry foreigners:
Café
lives in a lovely home (converted from a barn) located in a small town about 4 hrs from Paris.  He is owned by our daughter's good friend, Jeremy, whom she visited in July.
HONEY was purchased as a puppy (cheap!) in Mexico by people from Indiana and crossed the border into our country with them during the very early days of Spring, 2017. We jokingly refer to her as our DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) dog, hahaha ... j/k...

She eventually trotted into our lives at the end of May. Till we got her, we had no idea how relatively easy it is for a Dog, 4 months and older, to cross the border into the USA from Mexico.  A possible side-benefit of NAFTA, perhaps?

Also, how many other designer and/or pure-bred dogs sold in the USA are from inexpensive Mexico-based breeders?  Dig deeper into your purchase of a cute Pooch and you might be in for a surprise.

Luncheon with Mexican Folk Dancers

These Dancers rent the facilities at our church.  Until a few days ago, we church members had only heard of them and not seen them IRL. Finally, a dance-show with luncheon was held at our church parking lot. It was about  color that day -- in food, and especially in costumes.

Folklorica Quetzaly charges a minimal amount for young (and old) to learn various traditional Mexican Dance routines during weekly lessons. The dance costumes are vibrant and varied(btw, the more elaborate the look of the dancer via costume, hair arrangement, jewelry and so on, the higher the standing in the community). Many of the home-made props are made with pride.  Most importantly, it becomes a worthy family affair as many Parents get involved, and the kids are kept busy and off the streets.

Trump Toilet Paper Will Provide Jobs for Mexicans

A Mexican businessman offended by presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign rhetoric will introduce “Trump” brand toilet paper this year. He is going to use a percentage of the revenue to help illegal immigrants and those deported, he claims.

Guanajuato lawyer Antonio Battaglia will market the product with the iconic image of the Trump golden coiffure placed atop a roll of toilet paper, reported Expansión, a CNN affiliate network. The Expansión reported that “[t]he offensive tone when referring to Mexicans during his campaign days heading for the United States presidency motivated Battaglia.” The publication mentioned Trump’s reference to “bad hombres,” a phrase the candidate used during a presidential debate in October 2016. As reported by Breitbart News, the use of the phrase was about drug dealers.
“It caused me a nuisance, and I started looking for a way to do something that had an impact, not in a tone of mockery or bad revenge, but in a positive way,” the Mexican lawyer and businessman told Expansión.
Battaglia, the grandson of Antonio Felix Battaglia, a professional football player in Argentina, said he tried to register a clothing or footwear line, but the “Trump” Brand is already registered. He and his family already have a shoemaking business.
Battaglia says he wants to produce a product at an affordable price and help those who are affected by the Trump Administration’s policies. Battaglia told the media outlet, “At the onset, I hope to allocate 30% of the profit to organizations in Guanajuato.” He says he will invest approximately 400,000 pesos but will entertain outside investors.
Battaglia says the biggest challenge is finding a producer because the market has been oversold. He found a company in Mexico to produce the product. The businessman claimed he is doing this because he became irritated at what he perceived as Trump’s attack on Mexican citizens during the campaign. However, he reportedly obtained registration of the mark in the Mexican Institute of the Industrial Property (IMPI) in August 2015.
