Former First Lady, Barbara Pierce Bush, would have been 93 years old on June 8th. 

 I liked her during her tenure as US's First Lady. Mrs Bush came across as a strong, wise, no-nonsense type: totally non-threatening, and thus, worthy of my trust. (Was it her pearl jewelry, her grey hair, or her inner strength at 3-yo daughter Robin's death that prompted my admiration??). I still felt comfortable with the BUSH's sur-name when I voted for her son, George W, the two times he ran for POTUS. 

In her honor, I deliberately used my 3-strand pearls for several days after her death.

George Washington: His Last Day on Earth

Remembering President George Washington on his birthday (February 22, 1732).  Last  December 14, 2017 was the 218th Anniversary of his death. Here is an account of his excruciating last hours, via The Federalist Papers Project:

Most Americans know that the Father of our Country was also a military general without which the United States never would have gained independence, and those who remember their social studies classes will hopefully recall that his tenure as president set the standard for chief executives being understood as public servants rather than monarchs.

There’s much more to Washington’s life and example, of course, and even history buffs and political junkies might not be aware of the grim, remarkable details of the very end of his time on earth.

In 2014, Dr. Howard Markel of the University of Michigan wrote a piece for PBS NewsHour detailing the rapid onset of the illness that claimed Washington’s life, as well as the “excruciating” nature of the attempts to treat him.

It all started the day before at his Mount Vernon estate, when the retired general and president began to experience coughing, a runny nose, and hoarseness in his voice as a result of spending the day in harsh winter weather and declining to change into dry clothes for dinner for fear of being tardy.

At 2 AM the next morning, Washington’s condition had woken him up with “profound shortness of breath” with a “pronounced fever” following a few hours later, leading to the fetching of his 40-year physician, Dr. James Craik.

The details of Washington’s treatment are not for the faint of heart; they involve the uneasy, obsolete medical practice of bloodletting:

At 7:30 a.m., [Mount Vernon overseer George] Rawlins removed 12 to 14 ounces of blood, after which Washington requested that he remove still more. Following the procedure, Col. Lear gave the patient a tonic of molasses, butter and vinegar, which nearly choked Washington to death, so inflamed were the beefy-red tissues of his infected throat […]

Dr. Craik entered Washington’s bedchamber at 9 a.m. After taking the medical history, he applied a painful “blister of cantharides,” better known as “Spanish fly,” to Washington’s throat. The idea behind this tortuous treatment was based on a humoral notion of medicine dating back to antiquity called “counter-irritation.” The blisters raised by this toxic stuff would supposedly draw out the deadly humors causing the General’s throat inflammation.

At 9:30 a.m., another bloodletting of 18 ounces was performed followed by a similar withdrawal at 11 a.m. At noon, an enema was administered. Attempts at gargling with a sage tea, laced with vinegar were unsuccessful but Washington was still strong enough to walk about his bedroom for a bit and to sit upright in an easy chair for a few hours. His real challenge was breathing once he returned to lying flat on his back in bed.

Two more rounds of bloodletting were attempted afterward, with the fourth helping him a bit — but it didn’t last. Incredibly, to the agonizing end, Washington was the personification of dignity:

He told Dr. Craik: “Doctor, I die hard; but I am not afraid to go; I believed from my first attack that I should not survive it; my breath can not last long.” Ever the gentleman, even in extremis, the General made a point of thanking all three doctors for their help […]

At 10 p.m., Washington murmured some last words about burial instructions to Col. Lear. Twenty minutes later, Col. Lears’ notes record, the former president settled back in his bed and calmly took his pulse. At the very end, Washington’s fingers dropped off his wrist and the first president of our great Republic took his final breath.

Multiple physicians intensely debated Washington’s cause of death at the time, and whether alternative procedures could have saved his life, and in fact modern medicine isn’t even entirely sure today, though according to Markel, “acute bacterial epiglottitis seems most likely.”

It’s definitely ugly to think about how painful and harrowing that death must have been, but it’s comforting to think that if anyone went on to claim his heavenly reward of eternal peace, it would be the man to whom we owe so much.

An America First Tax RELIEF PLAN: President Donald J. Trump, the House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee, and the Senate Finance Committee are proposing vital tax relief to strengthen the middle class, grow the economy, and unleash America’s economic comeback.

• We are calling for a dramatic tax cut, which includes:
  • A larger zero tax bracket;
  • Lower tax rates for individuals, providing relief to Middle Class American families;
  • Lower small business tax rates, giving a boost to millions of American businesses and farms; and
  • Lower corporate tax rates, making American business more competitive.
• Tax cuts, like those in President Trump’s unified framework, boost economic growth.
  • Since Vice President Pence’s 2013 tax cuts, as Governor of Indiana, unemployment in Indiana has been cut in half and more than 200,000 jobs have been created.
  • President Reagan’s 1986 corporate income tax cut contributed 3.3 percent to economic growth over ten years, according to the Tax Foundation.

• The vast majority of Americans will be able to file their taxes on a single sheet of paper.
  • American individuals and businesses spend more than 6 billion hours complying with the tax code, according to the National Taxpayer Advocate.
• The plan repeals the Alternative Minimum Tax, which requires many taxpayers to do their taxes twice.
• The plan ends the job killing “Death Tax.”

Lower The Crushing Business Tax Rates: We will cut tax rates for American business and make American business competitive again.

• The plan will reduce the corporate tax rate to 20 percent.
  • The United States corporate income tax rate is the highest in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and has been above the OECD average for almost 20 years.
  • The United States corporate income tax rate is more than 10 points higher than China’s, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
• The plan will also reduce the top tax rate paid by sole proprietors, S corporations, and partnerships to 25 percent.
• For the next five years, American businesses will be able to immediately write off the cost of their equipment and other capital investments.
• Economists agree that America’s corporate tax rate harms America’s workers by keeping their wages down.
  • More than 70 percent of the corporate tax burden falls on American workers, according the CBO.

Bring Wealth Back: We are proposing an “American Model” that will bring back trillions of dollars held overseas and restore America’s competitive edge.

• Profits that have accumulated offshore will be subject to a one-time low tax rate, thereby ending the tax incentive to keep those profits offshore.
• To avoid paying high U.S. corporate taxes on foreign profits, American companies have often reinvested their money abroad instead of repatriating it to U.S. shores.
  • Companies hold an estimated $2.8 trillion in earnings offshore, according to Audit Analytics.
• This plan will stop the “Offshoring Model,” which penalizes companies for incorporating in the United States.

Trump Toilet Paper Will Provide Jobs for Mexicans

A Mexican businessman offended by presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign rhetoric will introduce “Trump” brand toilet paper this year. He is going to use a percentage of the revenue to help illegal immigrants and those deported, he claims.

Guanajuato lawyer Antonio Battaglia will market the product with the iconic image of the Trump golden coiffure placed atop a roll of toilet paper, reported Expansión, a CNN affiliate network. The Expansión reported that “[t]he offensive tone when referring to Mexicans during his campaign days heading for the United States presidency motivated Battaglia.” The publication mentioned Trump’s reference to “bad hombres,” a phrase the candidate used during a presidential debate in October 2016. As reported by Breitbart News, the use of the phrase was about drug dealers.

“It caused me a nuisance, and I started looking for a way to do something that had an impact, not in a tone of mockery or bad revenge, but in a positive way,” the Mexican lawyer and businessman told Expansión.

Battaglia, the grandson of Antonio Felix Battaglia, a professional football player in Argentina, said he tried to register a clothing or footwear line, but the “Trump” Brand is already registered. He and his family already have a shoemaking business.

Battaglia says he wants to produce a product at an affordable price and help those who are affected by the Trump Administration’s policies. Battaglia told the media outlet, “At the onset, I hope to allocate 30% of the profit to organizations in Guanajuato.” He says he will invest approximately 400,000 pesos but will entertain outside investors.

Battaglia says the biggest challenge is finding a producer because the market has been oversold. He found a company in Mexico to produce the product. The businessman claimed he is doing this because he became irritated at what he perceived as Trump’s attack on Mexican citizens during the campaign. However, he reportedly obtained registration of the mark in the Mexican Institute of the Industrial Property (IMPI) in August 2015.

Obama Thinks He's still POTUS

I did not vote for Mr Obama in 2008 nor in 2012; and felt relief when he was finally out of office. So why is the  Former Prez acting as if he were still the POTUS?!!!  He had better be careful.  He would not want to be in violation of the LOGAN ACT--1 Stat. 613, 18 U.S.C. § 953, enacted January 30, 1799 -- and be fined, or imprisoned, or both  (emphasis below mine):  

§ 953. Private correspondence with foreign governments.

Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

Remember that it was the hints and innuendo of the violation of said Act that may have played a role in the toppling of former national security adviser, Michael "Mike" Flynn.

Will an Impeachment of POTUS Trump Succeed?

The impeachment of a sitting  US President is a 2-step process:
Step 1: Formal charges are brought by the US House of Representatives.  It must be by simple majority for charges to stick.  
Examples of impeachable offences, per wikipedia, are "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors" (as defined by Congress). 

 Step 2:  After formal articles of impeachment,  the US Senate will hold a trial, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (currently, the Honorable John Roberts) presides.  To convict the POTUS and remove him from office, 2/3 majority of the Senators must vote and say Yes/Okay.

The problem of numbers glares at you from the get-go. President Trump's current tenure has both the House and Senate under Republican control. Mr Trump's removal from office via impeachment -- even when you consider the few RINOs in cahoots with the Democrats -- looks unlikely to succeed:

(a) "Case in point was President  Bill Clinton . Everyone knows that he lied under oath regarding his affair with Monica Lewinsky. He was impeached in Congress by a simple majority vote. However, for the impeachment to hold, it needed 67% of the Senators. With the Democrats in control of the Senate at that time, that did not happen".

(b) "The other case was President Barack Hussein Obama II. The Republicans during his second term controlled both Houses of Congress. Many Republicans loathed Mr Obama and yet they could not impeach him because of this 67% rule".  -- WP

Chrissy Tiegen: Beauty & the Beast Within

Model Chrissy Tiegen blames President Trump for her severe anxiety.  How I wish that the source of people's anxieties were that easy to figure-out. From reading the article and her very long-term trolling of Mr Trump,  I am guessing that her problems are quite deep seated; have multiple causes and tangled roots that go back many, many years. Simply impeaching the POTUS will not be the answer.

I hope she gets better, and does not get nuttier.  I pray that her baby comes to no harm. I happen to think that her husband, John Legend, with his horrid words against our President, adds to her anxiety issues. Together, their daily conversations  must be like water that gets murkier and murkier as they stir each other up to hate, hate, and more hate. (BTW, he's got  a concert at our local venue this June. Not that I would waste my money on such an outspoken POTUS-basher; but even if I were to change my mind, it's already sold-out).

Anyhoo,  here are 10 suggestions for Ms Tiegen -- some of which I've personally tried because EVERYONE has anxiety issues. #10 is most important:


1. See your Psychiatrist.  You obviously need to Up the number of visits judging by the article
2.  Have your doctor adjust/tweak/change your meds accordingly
3. Go on a vacation with hubby; leave baby Lulu with your parents; Enjoy
4.  Rest.  Sleep 8 hours a night at the very least
5.  Be active.  Take longer walks.  Join an exercise class. 
6.  Do what you do best: gourmet cooking
7.  STOP the vulgar language with which you pepper your conversations/posts. You upset others. If others around you are not happy, that will rub off on you. 
8.  STOP complaining so much.  Tell John too.  You both need to be more thankful for the super-abundant blessings with which you've been bestowed by God (good looks, good health,wealth, influence,  and talent, to name a few). 
 9. Read the following short article. Fill that pretty head of yours with research on the link between complaining and re-wiring your brain.

Possible Causes for Depression and Anxiety

10.  If you can  do only ONE thing, Ms Tiegen,  read  the short passage below and pay special attention to the words in bold:

 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 

Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance

of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

Did you see that, Ms Teigen? Read it again: ... they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation ...  
What does the word damnation entail?  I can think of a few -- unhappiness, depression, anxiety, confusion, pain, and so on. Aren't these some of your issues? 

Thus, I strongly and seriously suggest that you stop with the complaints, the negativity, the hatred, the insults of the POTUS.  If God has pronounced damnation on this type of behavior, common sense would indicate that to cease said behavior would alleviate some, if not all, the problems that you currently suffer.  You may even avoid worse problems in the future.  

Remember: it was the almighty God who gave us Mr Trump as U.S. President. The full reasons may never be known; but he is to be respected for holding that office.  Take heart that his role is but for a season (4 years, 8 years, or less).

If this "curse" were mere words -- meaningless & frivolous, an outright lie -- then the God I worship would not be the one true God.  Atheists would have my attention. However, I have so much confidence in His Word that I see nothing but good things ahead for you if you follow my suggestion.
