Our Pet Kitties: A Beautiful Poem Written for Cats by AI

In the heart of a bustling cityscape,
Where honking horns and sirens wail,
Two feline souls, Katcha and Chai,
Embarked on a journey, a feline tale.

From New York's streets, so bright and grand,
They bid farewell to the lights and sway,
With twitching whiskers and paws in hand,
They headed back to sweet home Chicago way.

In Central Park, where dreams take flight,
Katcha chased pigeons with wild delight,
While Chai lounged on windowsills high,
Gazing at the skyscrapers reaching the sky.

But now they tread on Chicago's ground,
A new adventure, familiar sights surround,
They stroll along the windy shores of the lake,
Marveling at the beauty, their spirits awake.

Katcha pounces on autumn leaves,
Chai dances through the snowflakes,
Their playful antics weave tales of glee,
As they settle in this city, their hearts awake.

The windy city's breeze whispers their names,
As they explore its neighborhoods and lanes,
From Lincoln Park to the Magnificent Mile,
They find comfort and joy with every mile.

In moonlit nights, they roam the streets,
Through alleyways and beneath city lights,
Katcha and Chai, their bond grows strong,
In the heart of Chicago, where they belong.

So here they are, these feline friends,
Katcha and Chai, their story transcends,
A tale of love, of homecoming sweet,
In Chicago's embrace, their souls meet

Life With Pets: Vicious Kitty

Peace. Out.
Each Pet usually gets along with the other, but for two nights in a row I was roused from sleep by  hissing and/or door banging.
What gives?  I was too sleepy to care, and let it go.Tufts of hair greeted me in the morning. Cats were calm or napping at their fave spots. The rest of the Family had nothing to report. No signs of damage that I could see. All. Is. Well.

The truth  These two had been at it! 😏 😑 😕

She Drew Blood, Ouch!

We call her The Lawnmower -- very aggressive and greedy when it comes time for snacks.

She must have thought she had grabbed the mother-load when her claws snagged my hand while I was doling-out cat snacks, 👎😑. BTW, as little as the claw puncture looks, it stung 😒

She's not sorry!!  😄

Ductwork Rescue: Cat Trapped

What's that noise?

At approximately 10 a.m. there were sounds of scraping and slight thumping. Were there birds or squirrels above my bedroom on the brand-new roof?

The sounds continued and I pinpointed them to a lower location. Garage?

Me, shouting: Hey, dear daughter. Open the garage door and check for small, trapped animal(s), will ya.

DD, from her bedroom:  Ahh.... mom, I think Kitty went inside the open floor vent.

Yes, curious young stupid Kitty noticed the uncovered opening, wiggled her way inside and continued her adventure by crawling into the ductwork tube.  Damn. Turned off AC.

Could not see past 18 inches or so inside the tube even with the help of a flashlight. The tube had a diameter that could fit my balled-up little fist. How did her furry body fit in there? Can she breathe? Is she comfortable? Stuck? Where exactly is she?  Note to self: do not flush toilet in case kitty gets spooked into crawling farther down the ductwork.

We called her name, jiggled her favorite toy,  set out some food by the opening, left a small light on. Nothing. Napping, or already dead??

I made a frantic call to hubby who suggested opening all vents in the hopes that she'll come out of one of them.  And, yes, he'll be right there.

I began a search for an HVAC ( Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning)  specialist.  This led me to register at  YELP and HomeAdvisor. I did the equivalent of sending out a mass distress call/email.

Most do not remove animals in ducts.  Two suggested that I call the Fire Department. The animal shelter said to call a pest/vermin expert. One company will charge $89 just to come and figure out a solution. In response to my question to said company on previous experience, the answer was,  "I can't say I've had this happen before but I do have a camera to look inside the ductwork. " Can we say: does not inspire much confidence?!!

I was down to 2 options:

A Temp Mechanical ... Louie came across on the phone as friendly, available, and had a willing, can-do attitude.

OR

All Animal Removal  -- Robert has the fiber optic camera. Their specialty is extraction (dead or alive) of any animal, anywhere.  Cost, $275 minimum.
Made a same-day appointment for 5 p.m.

Conclusion:
Much prayer went out to God for kitty's safety and the granting of the ability/brains to get out of a tight spot on her own. Six hours after her misadventures began, Kitty had had enough of her dark, safe spot and scooted out -- with much effort -- butt first like a breech baby. Thank You, Lord God, for hearing our cry for a downright miracle,  a-la talking Donkey with Baalam in the OT!

Whew, just in time to cancel our appointment with All Animal Removal. Saved us mucho dinero.  Covered the vent, turned on the a/c and flushed the toilets.
The end.
"There are just some things we can’t fix; we can’t change; we can’t manage. But we sure do try, don’t we?! We wrestle against our situations when God wants us to rest in Him. Rest is what you experience when you stop trying to fix your problem and fix your eyes on God instead.

Oh, Lord, that is what we need. Help us to fix our eyes on You and trust You to fix any problem we face. May Your will be done on earth, in our lives, as it is in heaven. Amen." (source F B )

Two Real-life Cat Saviors

(1) In our bedroom area late last night, Kat got on the counter and deliberately made eye contact with his soulful, beautiful yellow/green eyes.  No, he was not interested in his food bowl.  Yes, our usually aloof cat wanted to be scratched all over. He then jumped off the counter, and did a fast trot down the hall.   He did a repeat of this behavior.

Later,  I made my way down the same hall to do a last-minute check of the kitchen before hopping into bed. That's when I heard dripping water.  Hubby had left the faucet on in the down stair's bathroom.  The sink was not draining properly, and the dripping had gone on long enough for water to accumulate over 3 inches.  The cat, sleeping in the living room, took note of the loud noise -- which I could not hear in our bedroom area -- and was bothered enough to attempt to draw my attention via his aforementioned behavior.

If left on overnight, it would have caused flooding  and damage to the bathroom's  floor. We would also have had to pay for the wasted water. We already pay a high enough fee to Chicago, our water's source, for pete's sake! Thank God for using our perceptive and intelligent kitty to save us money. Next time Kat gives me a prolonged look with his gorgeous googly eyes, I will take it as a hint of potential trouble brewing and do a thorough check of the entire house.

(2) Here is the another story of a heroic and even more perceptive cat:
