Our Pet Kitties: A Beautiful Poem Written for Cats by AI

In the heart of a bustling cityscape,
Where honking horns and sirens wail,
Two feline souls, Katcha and Chai,
Embarked on a journey, a feline tale.

From New York's streets, so bright and grand,
They bid farewell to the lights and sway,
With twitching whiskers and paws in hand,
They headed back to sweet home Chicago way.

In Central Park, where dreams take flight,
Katcha chased pigeons with wild delight,
While Chai lounged on windowsills high,
Gazing at the skyscrapers reaching the sky.

But now they tread on Chicago's ground,
A new adventure, familiar sights surround,
They stroll along the windy shores of the lake,
Marveling at the beauty, their spirits awake.

Katcha pounces on autumn leaves,
Chai dances through the snowflakes,
Their playful antics weave tales of glee,
As they settle in this city, their hearts awake.

The windy city's breeze whispers their names,
As they explore its neighborhoods and lanes,
From Lincoln Park to the Magnificent Mile,
They find comfort and joy with every mile.

In moonlit nights, they roam the streets,
Through alleyways and beneath city lights,
Katcha and Chai, their bond grows strong,
In the heart of Chicago, where they belong.

So here they are, these feline friends,
Katcha and Chai, their story transcends,
A tale of love, of homecoming sweet,
In Chicago's embrace, their souls meet

A Cat Called Room 8

In honor of National Kitten Day (July 10, 2022) here is one unforgettable kitten/cat 🐈 named Room 8:

“Room 8” ( 1947–1968 )

Room 8 was a neighborhood cat who wandered into a classroom in 1952 at Elysian Heights Elementary School in Echo Park, California. He lived in the school during the school year and then disappeared for the summer, returning when classes started again. This pattern continued without interruption until the mid-1960s.

News cameras would arrive at the school at the beginning of the year waiting for the cat's return; he became famous and would receive up to 100 letters a day addressed to him at the school. Eventually, he was featured in a documentary called Big Cat, Little Cat, and a children's book, A Cat Called Room 8. Look magazine ran a three-page Room 8 feature by photographer Richard Hewett in November 1962, titled "Room 8: The School Cat". Leo Kottke wrote an instrumental called "Room 8" that was included in his 1971 album, Mudlark.

As he got older, Room 8 was injured in a cat fight and suffered from feline pneumonia, so a family near the school volunteered to take him in. The school's janitor would find him at the end of the school day and carry him across the street.

His obituary in the Los Angeles Times rivaled that of major political figures, running three columns with a photograph. The cat was so famous that his obituary ran in papers as far away as Hartford, Connecticut. The students raised the funds for his gravestone. He is buried at the Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park in Calabasas, California.

Daughter Bitten by a Feral Cat

The cat at the Park looked friendly, says she.  But it suddenly took a vicious bite at her  wrist. The painful injury required a 10-day dose of antibiotics, sigh ... Thank God for a friend's Physician-mom for the Rx.

We are cat-sitting her two friendly/affectionate cats here at our home for a couple more months, but why take a risk petting an unknown, home-less, German cat? Because daughter misses her own Pets and she's a cat-lover at heart that's why!!  It did not help any that the feral cat is a look-alike to one of our own cats (who truly is a friendly cat, see picture). Appearances can be deceiving otherwise!

Day 1

Day #2
Day #3
Day #4
Day #5

The wound has healed, thank God.  As for our main concern of Rabies, the Physician assured her that the German town vaccinates its feral animals against rabies. There have been no recent reported cases. Praying, in Jesus' name,  for the continued well-being of our daughter ❤💚❤

National Cat / Kitten Day 2021

The cat's meow

Understanding feline language - The Humane Society
Cats lack the facial expressiveness of dogs, they’re generally quieter and their behaviors can be harder to interpret—but this doesn’t mean that the feline mystique is impenetrable. You can better understand your furry friend by paying attention to their vocalizations, body postures and daily routines. In time, you may become so attuned to your kitty’s personality and habits that you’re able to detect subtle changes in their mood and even recognize health problems before physical signs of illness appear.
Vocalizing

You'll learn a lot when you can interpret your cat's wide vocabulary of chirps and meows. They'll tell you when they're hungry, when they're feeling affectionate and if they're feeling threatened or in pain.

While some cats rarely make a peep, others won’t let you get a word in edgewise. Kittens who are handled often and well socialized may turn into more vocal adults and certain breeds, like Siameses and Abyssinians, are loquacious by nature.

Cats can also become increasingly vocal as they age. Two possible reasons for this are age-related dementia and deteriorating eyesight. A cat who feels anxious or confused may meow to seek reassurance. Hearing loss can also cause a kitty to vocalize louder than usual because they can’t determine their volume. (Any pronounced behavior change should trigger a trip to the vet to make sure your cat isn’t ill or in pain.)

  • Meowing is all-purpose; your cat may be using "meow" as a greeting, a command, an objection or an announcement. Some people have observed their cats walking around the house meowing to themselves.
  • Chirps and trills are how a mother cat tells their kittens to follow them. Aimed at you, it probably means your cat wants you to follow them, usually to their food bowl. If you have more than one cat, you'll often hear them converse with each other this way.
  • Purring is usually a sign of contentment. Cats purr whenever they're happy, even while they're eating. Sometimes, however, a cat may purr when they're anxious or sick, using their purr to comfort themselves, like a child sucking their thumb.
  • Growling, hissing or spitting indicates a cat who is annoyed, frightened, angry or aggressive. Leave this cat alone.
  • A yowl or howl (they sound like loud, drawn-out meows) tells you your cat is in some kind of distress—stuck in a closet, looking for you or in pain. Find your cat if they're making this noise. However, in unaltered cats, these sounds are part of mating behavior. If your cat is elderly, they may howl because they're disoriented, especially if suffering from a cognitive disorder, such as dementia.
  • Chattering, chittering or twittering are the noises your cat makes when they're sitting in the window watching birds or squirrels. It usually translates to excitement ... or they may be contemplating snack time.

She Drew Blood, Ouch!

We call her The Lawnmower -- very aggressive and greedy when it comes time for snacks.

She must have thought she had grabbed the mother-load when her claws snagged my hand while I was doling-out cat snacks, 👎😑. BTW, as little as the claw puncture looks, it stung 😒

She's not sorry!!  😄

My Cats Are Trained and Forbidden to Do This

Pictures such as the ones below  are a thing of the past.  No more!  After much crying, yelling, and overall bad behavior (and that's just from our kids), we've finally succeeded in training the 3 cats to stay off of our kitchen counters and island.

Sure, we had to put up with loud hisses, sharp nails, and dirty looks but we did it!  All it took was a decisive NO,  a loud accompanying clap if need be, or a slight bop on the nose if they thought we were not serious. If those did not  do the trick, we firmly took them off the counter and set them on the floor with another  loud NO. It took only a few times until they understood that certain areas  in our house are off limits to them.  It works!  They now rarely get on the counters or island, and we are all that much happier.

sorry, my Kitties (not!!)
