We are a Safer World With The Help of 2 Doxies

Saved from another toilet paper run?!  Hoorah for these Heroes!!

The media doesn't like to give us credit, but it was actually two hard working little #wienerdogs who cleared the #SuezCanal and freed the #EverGreen container ship to continue on its way. Thankfully those pups earned some well deserved treats for their great digging and excavating skills! Good job, pups! - Crusoe, the Dachshund

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God
 in Christ Jesus concerning you.

She Drew Blood, Ouch!

We call her The Lawnmower -- very aggressive and greedy when it comes time for snacks.

She must have thought she had grabbed the mother-load when her claws snagged my hand while I was doling-out cat snacks, 👎😑. BTW, as little as the claw puncture looks, it stung 😒

She's not sorry!!  😄

My Household Increase in Cat & Dog Population

I have asked the Lord God, in the name of Christ, to "enlarge my coast" a-la Jabez of old, but now am uncertain if I was specific enough.  Instead of grandchildren, there has been an increase in the Pet animal population of our extended family via our son and daughters. Maybe I need to re-phrase my prayer, LoL ??

I am proud of the fact that my children are kind to Animals.  That will surely translate to being kind to others, Lord willing.

Ductwork Rescue: Cat Trapped

What's that noise?

At approximately 10 a.m. there were sounds of scraping and slight thumping. Were there birds or squirrels above my bedroom on the brand-new roof?

The sounds continued and I pinpointed them to a lower location. Garage?

Me, shouting: Hey, dear daughter. Open the garage door and check for small, trapped animal(s), will ya.

DD, from her bedroom:  Ahh.... mom, I think Kitty went inside the open floor vent.

Yes, curious young stupid Kitty noticed the uncovered opening, wiggled her way inside and continued her adventure by crawling into the ductwork tube.  Damn. Turned off AC.

Could not see past 18 inches or so inside the tube even with the help of a flashlight. The tube had a diameter that could fit my balled-up little fist. How did her furry body fit in there? Can she breathe? Is she comfortable? Stuck? Where exactly is she?  Note to self: do not flush toilet in case kitty gets spooked into crawling farther down the ductwork.

We called her name, jiggled her favorite toy,  set out some food by the opening, left a small light on. Nothing. Napping, or already dead??

I made a frantic call to hubby who suggested opening all vents in the hopes that she'll come out of one of them.  And, yes, he'll be right there.

I began a search for an HVAC ( Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning)  specialist.  This led me to register at  YELP and HomeAdvisor. I did the equivalent of sending out a mass distress call/email.

Most do not remove animals in ducts.  Two suggested that I call the Fire Department. The animal shelter said to call a pest/vermin expert. One company will charge $89 just to come and figure out a solution. In response to my question to said company on previous experience, the answer was,  "I can't say I've had this happen before but I do have a camera to look inside the ductwork. " Can we say: does not inspire much confidence?!!

I was down to 2 options:

A Temp Mechanical ... Louie came across on the phone as friendly, available, and had a willing, can-do attitude.

OR

All Animal Removal  -- Robert has the fiber optic camera. Their specialty is extraction (dead or alive) of any animal, anywhere.  Cost, $275 minimum.
Made a same-day appointment for 5 p.m.

Conclusion:
Much prayer went out to God for kitty's safety and the granting of the ability/brains to get out of a tight spot on her own. Six hours after her misadventures began, Kitty had had enough of her dark, safe spot and scooted out -- with much effort -- butt first like a breech baby. Thank You, Lord God, for hearing our cry for a downright miracle,  a-la talking Donkey with Baalam in the OT!

Whew, just in time to cancel our appointment with All Animal Removal. Saved us mucho dinero.  Covered the vent, turned on the a/c and flushed the toilets.
The end.
"There are just some things we can’t fix; we can’t change; we can’t manage. But we sure do try, don’t we?! We wrestle against our situations when God wants us to rest in Him. Rest is what you experience when you stop trying to fix your problem and fix your eyes on God instead.

Oh, Lord, that is what we need. Help us to fix our eyes on You and trust You to fix any problem we face. May Your will be done on earth, in our lives, as it is in heaven. Amen." (source F B )

Dog Training: Citronella Dog Collars

The neighbours had been complaining that my dog had been barking non-stop. I hate the electric zapping bark collars so I purchased a humane citronella collar. When a dog barks, it shoots a blast of citronella under their nose and apparently they don't like it.
This morning I was getting the collar ready and filled it with the citronella liquid. And that's where my morning should have ended. But no, it's me, and I begin to become curious as to “how” the collars actually work.
So I'm standing by my back door "barking" at my dog's collar. Nothing happens. I make sure it's turned on, check the fill level, and go through the "getting started" checklist one more time. Again, I bark. Nothing happens. Now I'm not quite sure, why I had this next thought, but I did...I put the collar on. I seriously extended the band and fit the growl box against my throat and barked. Apparently, the collar only works if it feels vibrations because I immediately received a blast of citronella to the face.
I began coughing, which only caused the collar to continue squirting bug spray over and over into my nasal cavity. I'm now on my hands and knees in my backyard, trying to breathe, and to make matters worse, the dog is barking. So between coughing and yelling at him to shut up, I've emptied over a dozen blasts of citronella to my face. During all of this ruckus, I'm trying to undo the clasp of the collar, which has somehow managed to weld shut during this whole fiasco.

I finally get the collar off and threw, yes I threw that inhumane good for nothing collar across the yard, and lay in the grass sucking in the cool morning air. In the middle of thinking this is probably the dumbest thing I've done in a while, I hear laughter. MY NEIGHBOR SAW THE WHOLE THING! He was laughing so hard he couldn't breathe. Between gasps, he tells me, "I was gonna come help, but every time I started to climb over the fence, you'd set it off again and then I would start laughing and couldn't make it." So now, not only are my eyes red, but my face and ears are too. After checking to make sure I was ok, we parted ways and I went in to shower so I wouldn't smell like ode de' Tiki Torch.

Lesson learned: next time (yes, there will always be a next time with me) make sure that:
1. Don't fill the collar before trying to set it off.
2. Remember your neighbor is not a good source of help in a comedy crisis situation.
On the plus side, I won't have a mosquito problem for a few days!

Even though this does sound like some crazy thing that I'd do, I hate to break the news that it's a copied story that gave me a good laugh so feel free to do the same. 😘😉
