Note:  I will never forget the News from a few years back of Terri Schiavo.  Her husband  let her die "naturally" by removing her feeding tube because she was in a vegetative state.  She pretty much died a slow, horrible death thru thirst and dehydration.  A most cruel act. What a despicable man.  God have mercy on him.

Expect withdrawals, even after a few hours. “Sugar is addictive and activates a dopamine response in the reward center of the brain, like a drug,” says Wolfe. Depending on the amount of sugar you consume daily, you might experience varying drops in blood sugar levels, sweating, shaking, irritable moodiness, hunger, and even depression.
Gottfried suggests fighting through these symptoms by consuming fresh vegetables with fiber, anti-inflammatory protein sources, and healthy fats.


After a Day
The days after you’ve stopped consuming sugar are perhaps the hardest. “You may have withdrawal-like symptoms including headaches and a drop in energy levels,” says Gottfried. You’ll probably even have some strong cravings for something sweet.
But already, your body is beginning to heal itself. “Sugar feeds harmful microorganisms, such as candida and fungus (athlete’s foot), so you may notice an immediate change in these or related conditions,” says Wolfe. Those microorganism suckers are hungry though—they’ll be craving sugar—which will make you sequentially hungry for sugar, but fight the cravings and push through.
After a Week

This is where the magic starts kicking in. Your body will quickly start to repair itself once sugar is out of the way, starting with improvements in insulin levels and inflammatory responses. “Research has shown that within 72 hours, you can repair your insulin receptors,” says Gottfried. As insulin levels begin to stabilize, other hormones (like those involved in fat storage) will return to normal levels. Another noticeable difference? Skin clarity and less puffiness in the face, says Wolfe. Moments of low energy can be perfectly normal still too.


After a Month

“After a month, you’ll realize what sugar has been doing to you, namely: increasing cravings, causing weight gain, yeast infections, amplifying inflammation, etc.,” says Wolfe. You’ll notice a lot of these issues, as well as cravings, beginning to disappear.
You’ll also have stable blood sugar levels, improved mental clarity with zero brain fog, natural weight loss, and improved gut health. “Too much sugar in your diet can cause an overgrowth of bad bacteria in your gut (dysbiosis),” says Gottfried. “A healthy gut reduces inflammation in your body and your overall risk for many health problems.”
After Six Months
Imagine this: “You will be so far away from the habit of eating sugar after six months that you will not only not want it, but you won’t even be able to look at it,” says Wolfe. (Talk about #goals.)
Gottfried also says that when blood sugar levels are stabilized, you’ll find weight stays off, especially that stubborn belly fat. More importantly, you’ll be overall healthier. “Six months without refined sugar will decrease your risk of Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and early aging,” she says.

After a Year

A year without processed sugar will definitely do the body good. Sugar has been linked to so many of our daily, long-term health problems, so reducing its intake will help in both small and large-scale ways.
From a surface level, skin quality and reduction of acne, irritation, and fine lines can be dramatic when sugar is eliminated from your daily diet.
On a more serious note, you will see a reduction in overall risk of preventable diseases, like diabetes, heart attacks, and strokes, and you’ll also increase your quality and length of life. “Longevity genes, like SIRT1, will be turned on and the aging gene, mTOR, turned off—thus increasing your healthspan,” says Gottfried.

Korean Skin Care: May Coop Raw Sauce

The Domino Magazine article piqued my interest (Maple tree sap for my skin -- why not?!!). Yes, many of us are intrigued by beautiful Asian skin. Who would not want the same?  So I bought the product, stored it, and promptly forgot about it.

My search thru my closets for travel essentials brought the yet unexpired brand new bottle back into my radar.

Now that I've used the product for a couple of weeks, I am grateful and attest to these:

A. it has not caused any skin break-outs,
B. my skin feels less dry

Household Helper: Uses for Alka Seltzer


Clean a toilet.
Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush


Clean a vase. 
To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water,
 and drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets.


Polish jewelry. 
Drop two Alka Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and
immerse the jewelry for two minutes.

Clean a thermos bottle.
Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary).


Unclog a drain. 
Clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, and then run the hot water.

Years pass by and our kidneys are filtering the blood by removing salt, poison and any unwanted things entering our body. With time, the salt accumulates and this needs to undergo cleaning treatments and how are we going to overcome this? 

It is very easy, first take a bunch of parsley (MALLI Leaves) and wash it clean.
Then cut it in small pieces and put it in a pot and pour clean water and boil it for ten minutes.  Let it cool down and then filter it and pour into a clean bottle. Keep it inside the refrigerator to cool.

Drink one glass daily and you will notice all salt and other accumulated poisons coming out of your kidney by urination.  Also, you will be able to notice the difference which you never felt before.
Parsley is known as best cleaning treatment for kidneys and it is natural!

Dental X Ray Requirements in your State

Just as I thought.  There is nothing written in stone about Dental X-ray requirements by my state.

Dental X-ray Laws
X-rays are often a part of dental exams, and while there is no statutory direction as to how often a dentist must take X-rays, there is a general liability issue.

Dentists should take X-rays in a "reasonable" time span to justify that he or she didn't disregard patients' oral health care. A dentist isn't legally required to take X-rays every six months or every year, particularly in patients who generally enjoy good oral health. However, if the dentist doesn't take X-rays and something happens, then he or she will be judged by the standards of the profession which indicate that it is proper to use X-rays for diagnostic purposes; it is difficult to do a thorough diagnosis without taking X-rays at reasonable intervals throughout the patient's "lifetime" at the dental office.
While dental patients have the right to refuse X-rays, the dentists also have the right to set a policy in their office dictating how often they take them for diagnostic purposes. X-rays provide your dentist with a valuable diagnostic tool that helps assess the overall condition of your teeth and their roots, jaw placement and overall composition of your facial bones. X-rays help your dentist see diseases of the teeth and surrounding tissue that cannot be seen with a basic visual oral examination and find and treat dental problems early in their development. This can potentially save you money, unnecessary discomfort and maybe even your life.

If the dentist has a policy that X-rays are to be taken at a given interval, and the patient refuses, the dentist has the right (although he or she may choose not exercise it) to dismiss the patient from his or her practice. The reason for this is that both the patient and dentist should be comfortable with the dentist/patient relationship and, should there be disagreement on fundamental treatment, then both parties would be better served in an environment where they both are comfortable.

I took exception to my Dentist's requirement that I have a full-mouth, panoramic dental x-ray ... which in reality is 17 X-rays of my teeth. It's been a couple of years, says he.  As far as I knew, my teeth and gums were fine.  I had no cavities, toothaches nor open sores. So, why not do the simple, twice-yearly dental cleaning without me having to compromise my health via radiation, for pete's sake?!! Office overhead $$$ getting a bit too much for you, Mr Dentist-with-the-expensive-indoor-waterfall?!!

Still, I am grateful to live in this beautiful, clean country of the U.S. of A! Watch the dental video below from India.  It'll make you either wince, gag, cry, laugh. Maybe all 4.

Not a Fan of Fragrance

Why Artificial Fragrances Stink

One day, in a Big Oil laboratory, a chemist cried out “Eureka! I’ve found the formula for the fragrance of a rose! Even rosier than a real rose!” A colleague asks “But is it petroleum-based and carcinogenic?” “Of course,” the chemist replied. Applause.

We smell trouble

Our sense of smell is a finely tuned mechanism that evolved eons ago. It helped our ancient forebears sniff out lurking predators and poisons, and identify scents that were simply pleasing. It’s also the sense most closely tied to memory—indeed a particular scent can remind us of things we thought we’d long forgotten.

Fast-forward to today, and we still have a love affair with pleasing fragrances. Indeed, we’ll spend $80 billion in the U.S. this year, and a projected $90 billion in 2020, just to fulfill that single, simple promise: a pleasant scent.

But to return to the Big Oil lab…what’s oil got to do with it?

Answer: just about everything.

“Fragrance” is a bucket of poison

Our search for pleasant scents is no longer limited to what we can find in nature. Those billions of bucks pour into labs creating artificial scents and products that contain them.

So guess where that Lavender Breeze air freshener comes from?  (Hint: not from lavender.)  Or that refreshing Citrus Grove after-shave?  Or the nameless but pleasing fragrances that somehow find their way into all sorts of cosmetics?

Watch out. More than 95 percent of the chemicals in synthetic fragrances are built on a foundation of petroleum.

What could possibly go wrong?


Slap some Texas crude on your face?

There’s an oil tanker full of toxins that are known to cause cancer, birth defects, nervous-system disorders, and allergies resting on that Big Oily foundation—more than 3,100 chemicals that are being absorbed, inhaled, and ingested daily.

Of particular concern is a class of chemicals known as phthalates, used to bind ingredients together—like fragrance and pigment in lipstick—and to increase flexibility in plastic hosing.

They’ve been found in thousands of everyday items. We’re talking cosmetics, household cleaners, food packaging, vinyl flooring, and more. 

And we’re talking everywhere. 

A great example?

Fresh, wholesome milk, in a glass bottle.   

But Dr. Connealy, you ask, how can a petroleum-based chemical get into a glass bottle?

Well, here’s how. As milk flows from cow to container, it passes through plastic tubing, which contains the phthalate di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP).  This phthalate is fat soluble, and milk contains plenty of a fat—so as it passes through the tubing, the mil
k drags some of the DEHP out of the tubing and into the bottle. 

In the U.S., only a handful of phthalates have been tested for safety.

Not the case in other industrialized nations.

 
What are we missing here?

The European Union’s 28 countries, along with Canada, South Korea, Japan, and China have outright banned the use of phthalates.

That’s because phthalates have been linked to:
  • Asthma
  • Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder
  • Breast cancer
  • Obesity
  • Type II diabetes
  • Low IQ
  • Neurodevelopmental and behavioral issues
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Altered reproductive development
  • Male fertility issues
How can this be happening?


Lazy, lousy label laws

Mainly because American companies are allowed to use “fragrance” on their products’ ingredients lists. Hidden under that umbrella, never to be seen listed, can legally be hundreds of synthetic chemicals—that are considered “trade secrets.” 

Many attempts have been made to urge the government to retire the trade secrets designation and require a full listing of all ingredients in any product containing phthalates and other dangerous toxins.

There have been small victories along the way. Congress has banned some phthalates in toys, for example. But that’s nowhere near the full disclosure that would thoroughly inform and warn consumers, and let them make their own, educated decisions.

Unfortunately, our government demands a very high level of proof of harm. It would take forever to test every one of the 3,100 chemicals now classed as trade secrets.

Or would it? 

Could there be counter-pressure on the government from oh, say, Big Oil?  And maybe every one of the players in this $80 billion industry? 

Self defense

How can you get these poisons out of your life? 

It’s an easy call. Read the labels and don’t touch any product that has “Fragrance” on the ingredients list.  You’ll be astonished by the numbers.

And be warned—even packages labeled “Fragrance-free” can contain dangerous ingredients. If there’s a long list of unpronounceable chemistry-lab ingredients, leave it on the shelf.

And toss anything with “Fragrance” in your housekeeping cabinet and your personal care/makeup regimen.   

Better still, replace all of those cleansers, polishers, deodorizers, shampoos, body washes, and who knows what else with natural, affordable substances. 

You’ll be amazed at what vinegar, baking soda, citrus and other oils, and other ordinary household items can do—and for a fraction of the cost that you’re paying for Big Oil and Big Cosmetics products.  There are hundreds of great sites that tell you what should go and how to replace it.

Finally, when you want to smell good, go for real, natural essential oils.  They don’t just smell wonderful. They can play a major role in keeping you happy and healthy.

Everything You Need to Know About Vitamin D and Cancer Prevention

When it comes to health, we should take a hint from the Japanese. It seems like everything they do health-wise is working. Studies indicate that these Asians have the highest longevity rate among all the world’s population. They eat and live healthy depending mostly on what nature has to offer. After all, these are free.
One such free resource is sunshine and this will never run out. Research shows that the Japanese have lower rates of diseases, especially cancer because they have high levels of the “sunshine vitamin” in their systems. The same study has concluded that vitamin D can, indeed, protect us against cancer aside from its other benefits which include maintaining calcium levels in our bones and helping boost the proper functioning of the immune system, the nervous system, and the muscular system.
We have been taught since the grade years that sunlight is our main source of vitamin D, which we referred to earlier as the “sunshine vitamin.” Rich sources of vitamin D are fatty fish like salmon, sardines, mackerel, and tuna. Dairy products are also good sources. In case the RDA isn’t met, we can always resort to supplements and these are readily available. Low levels of vitamin D in your body can put you at risk of contracting cancer.

What is vitamin D?

Vitamin D is a group of pro-hormones which are fat-soluble and are responsible for increasing intestinal absorption of calcium, phosphate, and magnesium. This means that this nutrient helps a person’s body utilize phosphorus and calcium to make stronger teeth and bones. Our skin’s exposure to sunlight can help generate vitamin D although we can also get it from the certain foods in our diets and through supplements. A deficiency in the nutrient can cause the weakening of bones which can lead to a condition known as rickets which occurs in children or osteomalacia in grown-ups. There are two kinds of vitamin D which are essential in the function of certain processes in the human body:

  • Vitamin D2 also known as ergocalciferol is naturally made by plants.
  • Vitamin D3 also known as cholecalciferol is naturally produced by your body when the skin gets exposed to UV rays in sunlight.
Both these forms of vitamin D get converted to 25-hydroxyvitamin D in a person’s liver. This compound is then carried by the person’s blood to his kidneys where it’s further converted to calcitriol or 1.25 dihydroxy vitamin D. This is the form of vitamin D which is considered as active and that the body can use. Measuring the amount of calcitriol will give you the vitamin D level in your body. There are several sources of vitamin D:

  • Most of us get through exposure to sunlight.
  • Dietary sources of the vitamin are found in fatty fish, eggs, and fish oils.
  • We can also get it from fortified foods like milk, breakfast cereals, and juices.
  • Finally, a convenient way to acquire the RDA of vitamin D is through supplements.
Some of us may assume that taking excessive amounts of vitamin D can give us more benefits. This, of course, is a falsity because too much of the nutrient can have toxic effects on the body. Just imagine if you have too much vitamin D. This will definitely increase the calcium levels which will lead to a disorder called calcinosis where calcium salts will start accumulating in the body’s soft tissues like the heart, lungs, and kidneys. Such excess can also lead to hypercalcemia where there will be high levels of calcium in the blood. This is especially true if someone takes too much vitamin D supplements. High intakes of dietary foods containing vitamin D will not cause much of a problem but excessive intake of vitamin D supplements could be toxic. Even excessive exposures to sunlight will not cause vitamin D problems but we should also be wary that too much sun is not a recommendation because this can increase the risk of developing skin cancer.


A Short History Of Vitamin D

The concept of vitamin D started in the year 1919 by Sir Edward Mallory, who was working with animals during winter. He did notice that his animals were developing bone problems when they were kept indoors. It was his conclusion that there must be a vitamin deficiency that was causing the problem and that administering cod liver oil to the animals seem to be a solution. Sir Mallory referred to this still unidentified vitamin as factor X. As we have mentioned earlier, fatty fish oils are rich in vitamin D and, therefore, is a preventative agent.
The chemical composition of this factor X was then identified by Professor A. Windaus in the 1930s. Hence, we now have vitamin D. Bone problems have been plaguing people for ages and the cause has been traced to vitamin D deficiency. The most common disorder caused by the deficiency is rickets which occurs in children.
A closer study of the substance will inform us that vitamin D is technically not a vitamin but more of a steroid hormone. These are substances produced by the endocrine glands then transported through the circulatory system to different organs of the body where they will be used to regulate behavior and physiology. Vitamin D is a crucial part of a person’s endocrine system because it’s involved in several bodily functions such as:

  • Controlling the differentiation and growth of cells.
  • Synthesizing of important enzymes.
  • Controlling a number of adrenal hormones.
  • It also seems to have some important DNA functions. In fact, it may even play a significant role in DNA repair.
  • Studies have shown that vitamin D also has an important effect on the sites of nuclear receptors and the receptor sites in cell membranes.
Vitamin D is composed of several chemicals which are fat-soluble and are called calciferols. Vitamin D2 or ergocalciferol gets produced when the ergosterol in a yeast extract is exposed to sunlight’s ultraviolet components. It’s not a substance that is found naturally in the blood of humans. Vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol, on the other hand, is produced when 7-dehydrocholesterol is exposed to the same ultraviolet components of sunlight. If the conversion should not take place, the 7-dehydrocholesterol is simply converted into cholesterol and later into some other steroid hormone. The main source of our vitamin D is through sunlight. Therefore:

  • Those who work night shifts in factories may find themselves deficient of the vitamin.
  • Those who have black skin or are heavily tanned may have difficulties producing vitamin D because of sunlight’s effect on their skin.
  • Conversely, those with fair-colored skin can easily pick up UV light in their natural environments. Presently, however, you would find people with this type of skin avoiding sunlight which could make them deficient in vitamin D.
Dietary sources of vitamin D are fish liver oils and a little in dairy products. The Omega-3 fish oil supplements don’t really have that much of the nutrient. The much-taunted cod liver oil, unfortunately, is not a good source. Ditto with halibut liver oil. To acquire a beneficial dose of vitamin D from these fish liver oils, you will need to consume a considerable amount. If you do this, you will simultaneously get a bigger dose of vitamin A as well, another important nutrient which might disrupt the beneficial effects of vitamin D on the density of bones. It’s like a lose-lose situation.
People should be aware that taking or making enough vitamin D can help reduce the risk of contracting cancer by as much as 33%. Aside from this, an adequate supply of the vitamin can also help boost the body’s immune system and correct cancer cells. It can also fight inflammations, prevent diabetes, dementia, osteoporosis, and much more.
Cancer can be prevented if there are enough vitamin D levels present in the blood. Such levels can even be used several times in predicting breast cancer.  It has also been proven that people who are deficient in vitamin D have lesser chances of surviving cancer because the nutrient can correct cancer cells. This means that vitamin D can do almost everything in the cancer cells and this can include the following:

  • Switch gene activities on and off in the cancer cell.
  • Reduce cancer cell division to prevent it from spreading.
  • Calm down the cancer cells so they would settle down instead of spreading.
Such actions make us think that vitamin D can restore a cancer cell to a normal and healthier state. Aside from its role in cancer, vitamin D also has an important role in the body’s metabolic processes, nuclear regulation in aging, slowing down and even reversing prostate cancer. Some studies have indicated that regular sunlight exposure can reduce the risk of cancers and that most of the cancer victims are usually deficient in vitamin D when diagnosed.

What Evidence Is There About Vitamin D and Cancer Prevention

Research conducted based on the distribution and determination of health and disease conditions, specifically cancer, indicated that the incidence, as well as the death rates for some cancers, were significantly lower with those who live in the southern latitudes where there are higher levels of exposure to sunlight than those living in northern latitudes. Because of the sunlight factor, experts hypothesized that there is an association between the variation in the levels of vitamin D and the disease. But this is still in the hypothesis stage. More studies are needed to determine if high levels of vitamin D can lower the incidence or even the death rates of cancer.
Many experiments have proven that there is a link between vitamin D deficiency and the risk of cancer. Studies have shown evidence that vitamin D can slow down cancer development by enhancing cellular differentiation, reducing the growth of cancer cells, stimulating apoptosis or cell death, and reducing the formation of tumor blood vessels.
Some studies have also been conducted to find out if people who take higher dosages of vitamin D or have higher levels of the vitamin in their blood have a lower risk of developing certain types of cancers. Unfortunately, the results of these studies have revealed are inconsistent. For instance, when doing dietary studies on vitamin D, do we include the vitamin D we can get by exposure to sunlight or do we only consider the measure of vitamin D levels in the blood at one point in time? If these aren’t considered in the study, then the result is not truly reflective of  the individual’s status of vitamin D. Another case in point is that people who take larger dosages of vitamin D or have high levels of the vitamin in their blood will not necessarily mean they have no risk in developing cancer because they may have some other healthy behaviors. It may be one of these healthy behaviors that could influence cancer, instead of the intake of vitamin D.
There have been many tests conducted regarding vitamin D intake, most of which were done to assess the health of the bones or some other outcomes but not for cancer. Still, some of these tests yielded results related to cancer incidences and mortality. Because these tests were made without specifically taking cancer as its main purpose, additional tests will be needed to confirm the results.

Myths and Facts About Vitamin D and Cancer Prevention

It was just a matter of time that men would notice a pattern in relation to the incidences of cancer depending on what area in the planet you live in.
