The Domino Magazine article piqued my interest (Maple tree sap for my skin -- why not?!!). Yes, many of us are intrigued by beautiful Asian skin. Who would not want the same?  So I bought the product, stored it, and promptly forgot about it.

My search thru my closets for travel essentials brought the yet unexpired brand new bottle back into my radar.

Now that I've used the product for a couple of weeks, I am grateful and attest to these:

A. it has not caused any skin break-outs,
B. my skin feels less dry

A Female Relative's Avoidable Untimely Death

What would cause a vibrant woman to go from glowing health to raging infection/coma in a short span of time? Read the details in her GoFundMe page below which set up by her friend.

She is hubby's beautiful relative. I was in shock upon hearing the news of her death.

In fifth grade, Norlyn, a childhood friend of mine, travelled all the way from the Philippines to Canada to be with her family. It was there where she pursued her career as a registered dental hygienist.

A month ago, she went to visit her native land to celebrate her 40th birthday with her only son, Daryll. Before flying back to Canada, she decided to get a tattoo done. Despite being aware of the precautions with  having the new tattoo, she decided to go for a swim. Two days later, she had both a high fever and chills, which caused her family to bring her to the emergency room. The doctor told the family that she had an infection that had already spread throughout her entire body. She was kept in the ICU for a few days on life support because of her difficulty breathing; however, the doctors informed the family that there was nothing else they could do to save her. 

On February 10, 2019, Norlyn decided to join our Lord and passed away. Her body remains in the Philippines where her son is also staying at the moment.

I am creating this fundraiser because of the large expenses arising from Norlyn's stay at the hospital the last couple of weeks. Unlike Canada's health care system, the Philippines does not have a system that resembles OHIP implemented and, unfortunately, hospital bills tend to be exceedingly high. In the case of Norlyn, the medical costs reached a million pesos and she did not have life nor travel insurance. This GOFUNDME page is dedicated to provide financial assistance for her family and, particularly, her child.

She was a great friend, sister, daughter and, most especially, a mother. Most of the people who knew her do live in Canada, and the goal of this fundraiser is to bring her back home, so that she can have the funeral she truly deserves where everyone can say their final goodbyes in person. Norlyn was an exceptional person with a beautiful soul and smile. Although she is now in a place of bliss, her family and son, in particular, need all the possible help they can get to cover all the costs and bills that emerged from this tragic event...

1. I would not post the above picture if I were not so angry and shocked. Norlyn should have known better -- she worked in the medical field, for pete's sake!!  To risk exposing her vulnerable just-tattooed skin to pathogens is simply very foolish (read stupid) of her and cost her her life. Sad. Sad. Sad. May others heed the warning.

2. Tattooing is part of the practice of a lot of pagan religions. No wonder God warns against it.  Not only does it displease Him, avoiding tattoos could potentially save a life.

Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead,

3.  Unless Norlyn knew the Lord Jesus Christ by faith, she has perished. She is suffering even more and will be forever in Hell. No escaping -- ever. Endless ritualistic, repetitive prayer by the living will never get her out. No mention of praying for the dead in the Bible. Very tragic death in more ways than one.

Illustrated Guide: List Identifying Insects by Their Bites

Bright Side created a little guide that will help you identify which insect attacked you.

HORNET

The area that was stung by a  HORNET  becomes red and seriously swollen. Blisters might appear. The victim feels very bad pain, even worse than the pain from a wasp sting. The hornet’s poison is even more toxic because the insect itself is bigger in size. The poison contains histamine and acetylcholine.

If the  victim feels cold in the limbs, his or her ears and lips go blue, or breathing problems start, the victim must see a doctor.

Bee

You need to remove the sting that might still be in the attacked spot. The skin usually gets red and swollen. A person feels burning, a sharp pain, and a severe itch appears a little later. If you are not allergic, this is where your troubles end. However, if a person is allergic to bee poison, he or she might have breathing problems, which is a serious concern

Wasp

The symptoms of a wasp   sting are like those after a bee attack. The stung area becomes red and swollen, the victim feels pain and burning, and terrible itching comes later. There might even be a hemorrhage on the skin. A wasp can sting multiple times. Just like with a bee attack, it’s very important to know if you are allergic as there may be an anaphylactic shock.

Mosquito

Mosquito bites look like swollen red spots the size of a berry. Most often they appear in open areas of the body. Mosquitoes bite the spots where the skin is very thin and it’s easy to get to the blood vessels. When they bite, they inject their saliva into the wound. The saliva contains  anticoagulants that make the blood thinner. They cause the skin to become red, to itch, and to swell.

Tick

The body’s reaction to a tick bite is a red spot. The insect can be in the victim for a long time, growing bigger and drinking blood.

The worst thing is that ticks  infect people  with encephalitis, borreliosis, and many other diseases. If you remove the insect from your body but the red spot doesn’t go away and continues to grow, you have to see a doctor as quickly as possible.

Flea

 Flea bites can easily be mistaken for allergies or mosquito bites because the bitten spots also look red and swollen. However, unlike mosquitoes, these insect bites are very painful, and the itch is much worse.

Fleas usually attack the legs, and only a sleeping person can be a victim. One insect can bite several times, so the distance between the red spots is usually from 0.5 to 1 inch (1 to 2 cm). Fleas transmit many serious infections.

Ant

Most  ants don’t present any danger to humans. However, the red fire ant can cause a lot of trouble. Pustules appear on the bitten spots that will later turn into scars. The ants’ poison contains toxins, so the victim might have an allergic reaction or an anaphylactic shock. A thatching ant’s bite is less dangerous. It looks a lot like a mosquito bite. A pink spot appears in the bitten area that itches for a long time. At the moment of the bite, the victim feels a burning pain as though some boiling water was poured on the skin.

Cleg

A  cleg  looks like a big fat fly. Unlike flies, clegs bite very painfully and drink human blood. At first, a small red spot appears not more than 0.03 inches wide (1 mm). Then it gets swollen and starts to itch. Clegs transmit different diseases like tularemia and anthrax, but most of the time they attack cattle rather than people.

Louse

If you notice small red dots that look like mosquito bites in the places where hair grows — on your head, your neck, and behind your ears — it means that you have been bitten by head   lice or pubic lice. If such dots appear on your back, belly, hands, or legs, they must have been cooties. The   bites are a few inches away from each other, and the skin looks like it was pierced.

Lice transmit very serious diseases like trench-fever and typhoid.

Bed Bug

At first sight,   bed bug bites look like flea or mosquito bites or an allergic reaction. The skin becomes red, swollen, and starts to itch. However, there is a way to recognize the bed bugs’ "work." The bites are very close to each other and look like little roads on the skin. Bed bugs’ bites are more painful than mosquitoes’. The numerous roads can be noticed in the morning as bed bugs hunt at night.

Warts and All

I had one common wart located on my left little finger which I showed to my Dermatologist. Common Warts are hardy and are caused by the HPV virus (ewww, sounds gross!). Since its location is on the outermost layer of skin,  Doc said my immune system is as concerned with it as much as I would be concerned for the far-away state of Alaska (I am in the Midwest, USA). That is why, if left untreated and on its own, the wart may take my immune system over a year to zap.

No thanks; I wanted quick action, so he recommended the over-the-counter Compound W Fast Acting Liquid: a bottled concentration of Salicylic Acid (17% -- at this strength, it is never to be applied to the face). I was to apply it once at night on my little finger (it stung!) and cover the wart with a strip of duct tape while I slept. Personally, I chose not to apply it every night; more like every 3rd or 4th night. I stopped after a couple of weeks. Doc says it's when skin lines are seen on the spot once again that the wart can be considered succesfully treated.

Salicylic Acid can burn-off that outer layer of skin!

How did I catch this since warts are contagious? Who knows.  My son had several warts on his dry chapped hands. And he probably got it from touching the public pianos he'd practice on while in college.

Teaching an old Dog new tricks: Noxzema & Toilets

Lesson 1:  Our 6 children and our cats were never ones to play with the toilet bowl and its contents, so we had no need for the item below.  My first encounter with the toilet-cover lock would have earned me an F-grade; and the inventor an A+ because it actually works! I found it impossible to open the lid. Had to humble myself and be shown how to unlock it by youngest daughter ( it's a two-step process, you dum dum).  It is not as easy as it looks, dear reader. You have been warned.

Lesson 2: I began re-using Noxzema about 5 years ago.  My girls also loved it. One day, youngest daughter was looking for our bottle, and asked "Mom, where's the Noxzema?", pronouncing the product  as  “no-eczema”.  I found our bottle, and lo and behold, the label does look like it's pronounced as she said.  

Fact is, that was the basis for the marketing of its name as we now know it.  Its  was originally called Townsend R22 by the inventor, Dr. Francis Townsend.  In what is now a well-known legend, one customer told Dr. Bunting (who was given  the formula, and called the product, Dr Bunting's Sunburn Remedy), “Your product knocked out my eczema!”.  Realizing he had a brand name, he repackaged it as Noxzema.

Dry-Hand Solution from Morocco

These are pictures of FJE's poor, dry hands.  We get so caught up in our schedule that not only do we forget to put lotion, we also forget to remind her to put lotion.  Two possible, and obvious reasons behind the dryness (a) Not enough humidity in our home during the Winter months (b) Too much hand-washing/bathing.

KJE has recently given me a BN box of "Kaeline" --- made of Argane or Argan  Oil as a Christmas gift.  She swears by it, and it's easily accesible through Amazon dot com.  Stay tuned --- we will do updates with pics. So, for the next month, Lord willing, we will apply it daily to Farrah's hands after her bath or as often as needed.  Wooot!

Throwing a hissy fit, waaaahhh!!!!

When I feel down, as I sometimes do, I remember the Lord's work of old --- His faithfulness in times past. The bottom pictures reveal FJE's fiery personality. Remembering through these pictures make me smile, yet promotes tearfulness on my part. What a wringer her eczema skin problem put us through! And it was all on her lovely face! (AJ had a similar problem, which lasted even longer). But the Lord healed her skin. He was with us and His grace was sufficient. Life went on.
Today, we have much cause to be thankful, including our children's beautiful smiles and clear skin. The eczema experience causes me to say "Amen" to the following verses found in the Bible --

When thou passest through the waters, 
I will be with thee;

and through the rivers,
 they shall not overflow thee:

when thou walkest through the fire, 
thou shalt not be burned;

neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

For I am the LORD thy God,
the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour
