Brooklyn Decker's Ceiling-tile Decor

Ms Decker's inspiration for her kitchen's ceiling is Biltmore House's tiled pool ceiling.

The guy she hired to do the crown moulding had a great-grandpa employed at the Biltmore's worksite in the 19th-century. The skills and tools were passed on!

The Vanderbilt's residential indoor pool was one of the firsts in the USA. Also, electricity for homes was in its infancy, especially for underwater use.
Biltmore House had underwater lights in its indoor swimming pool at a time when many homes were still lit with candles, oil and gas lamps. Electricity was in its formative years during the home’s construction, so Biltmore architect Richard Morris Hunt decided to wire the home with both Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC), since at the time no one knew which would become the standard. The latest technology extended all the way to the Vanderbilts’ 70,000 gallon swimming pool. Lights powered by low-voltage direct current lit the pool from under the water.  Located along the sides, the lights were sealed inside glass globes protected by metal cages. ncfieldfamily.org

We need to "fix" our own kitchen's ceiling. The look is not as seamless as I'd like. Will subway tile cover-up its slight imperfections?   How well will the tile hold up?  Or, do we just remove all of the popcorn ceiling to have one smooth ceiling?  Hmmmm, decisions, decisions.

Every Plate: Box #1

Our family had previously subscribed to Blue Apron and HelloFresh

With fewer people living at home, I was on the lookout for re-starting  another meal subscription at a lower price.

EveryPlate came to the forefront via my IG account.  The company touts itself as the lowest price meal subscription in North America. True, but it does comes at a "cost". BTW, Every Plate was launched by HelloFresh in 2018.

...  the recipes are only suitable for people who eat meat and do not suffer from any major food allergies. This significantly reduces the number of potential customers.
In other words, EveryPlate’s offer confirms the well-known fact that you cannot have it all. With this service, you get quality food and great convenience at an unbeatable price. However, you should not expect anything fancy and if you want your meals to be customized to suit any special dietary preferences, you need to customize them yourself.
(top10mealdeliveryservices.com)

Per EveryPlate site:  CYCLE OF BORING ...
Cook delicious, filling meals for 2 or 4 people in a snap. Pick your dishes, skip weeks, cancel any time. No commitments, really.
Our Subscription Plan:  dinner for 4 @ 3 meals a week.  Delivery date is every Thursday. We can skip meals and change meals. Basic cost $4.99 per serving.

This is what is supposed to be in our first box. Stay tuned:

A.  CHIPOTLE-GLAZED MEATLOAF

WITH ROASTED GARLIC MASHED POTATOES AND CARROTS

B. TUSCAN CHICKEN OVER CREAMY TOMATO LINGUINE WITH CHARRED LEMON

C. SKILLET APPLE PORK CHOPS

WITH ROASTED SWEET POTATOES AND ZUCCHINI

A Female Relative's Avoidable Untimely Death

What would cause a vibrant woman to go from glowing health to raging infection/coma in a short span of time? Read the details in her GoFundMe page below which set up by her friend.

She is hubby's beautiful relative. I was in shock upon hearing the news of her death.

Norlyn's Go Fund Me page:

In fifth grade, Norlyn, a childhood friend of mine, travelled all the way from the Philippines to Canada to be with her family. It was there where she pursued her career as a registered dental hygienist.

A month ago, she went to visit her native land to celebrate her 40th birthday with her only son, Daryll. Before flying back to Canada, she decided to get a tattoo done. Despite being aware of the precautions with  having the new tattoo, she decided to go for a swim. Two days later, she had both a high fever and chills, which caused her family to bring her to the emergency room. The doctor told the family that she had an infection that had already spread throughout her entire body. She was kept in the ICU for a few days on life support because of her difficulty breathing; however, the doctors informed the family that there was nothing else they could do to save her.

On February 10, 2019, Norlyn decided to join our Lord and passed away. Her body remains in the Philippines where her son is also staying at the moment.

I am creating this fundraiser because of the large expenses arising from Norlyn's stay at the hospital the last couple of weeks. Unlike Canada's health care system, the Philippines does not have a system that resembles OHIP implemented and, unfortunately, hospital bills tend to be exceedingly high. In the case of Norlyn, the medical costs reached a million pesos and she did not have life nor travel insurance. This GOFUNDME page is dedicated to provide financial assistance for her family and, particularly, her child.

She was a great friend, sister, daughter and, most especially, a mother. Most of the people who knew her do live in Canada, and the goal of this fundraiser is to bring her back home, so that she can have the funeral she truly deserves where everyone can say their final goodbyes in person. Norlyn was an exceptional person with a beautiful soul and smile. Although she is now in a place of bliss, her family and son, in particular, need all the possible help they can get to cover all the costs and bills that emerged from this tragic event...

by RRE:

1. I would not post the above picture if I were not so angry and shocked. Norlyn should have known better -- she worked in the medical field, for pete's sake!!  To risk exposing her vulnerable just-tattooed skin to pathogens is simply very foolish (read stupid) of her and cost her her life. Sad. Sad. Sad. May others heed the warning.

2. Tattooing is part of the practice of a lot of pagan religions. No wonder God warns against it.  Not only does it displease Him, avoiding tattoos could potentially save a life.

Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead,
nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.

- Leviticus 19:28

3.  Unless Norlyn knew the Lord Jesus Christ by faith, she has perished. She is suffering even more and will be forever in Hell. No escaping -- ever. Endless ritualistic, repetitive prayer by the living will never get her out. No mention of praying for the dead in the Bible. Very tragic death in more ways than one.

Happy Birthday, author L.M. Montgomery

Canadian author, Lucy Maud Montgomery, was born on November 30, 1874.  She is best known as the author of the worldwide hit, Anne of Green Gables.

A visit to Prince Edward Island, Canada is on my travel bucket list.
God willing, it will be a reality in July 2019, or soon thereafter.  Looking forward to seeing Green Gables -- an actual house belonging to a relative of LM Montgomery --  where the fictional character,   Anne Shirley, stayed.

Within a Few Feet of Oscar Wilde

Irish poet and playwright, Oscar Wilde  was born on October 16 in the year 1854. He passed away on Nov. 30, 1900.

We saw his tomb IRL while in Paris, France a couple of years ago.  If you're ever in Paris, a visit to Père Lachaise Cemetery is well-worth your time.  It is the final resting place of many famous people .   We will trek to this place again on our next trip to Europe, Lord willing.

Bathroom Renovation: Blue-Gray Colors

Hoorah. Glad bathrooms #1 & #2 are within range of this designer-favourite colour.
For Bathrooms
Just like a real spa, the bathroom can feel like a haven for relaxing and pampering with a tranquil and pretty shade of gray on the walls. "In a bathroom, I like the idea of using something fresh and clean, like one of my favorite grays, 'Wedding Band,' - Joanna Gaines (via House Beautiful

Muted tones of sienna or chalky gray/blues are a favourite of Heather Bullard, while New York-based designer Robin Wilson raves about a specific Behr shade called Drizzle. “I have seen it in a lot of properties that are staged for re-sale and it is a great neutral that allows the white to pop,” she says. The muted tone is a tranquil color that will make your space feel decidedly peaceful. - Domino Magazine

Red Hen Restaurant, VA: Picture of Owners

I wanted to connect a face to the Red Hen Restaurant in Virginia that was recently in the News for its unwillingness to serve Sarah Huckabee Sanders .  Sarah wasn't liked by the lady owner or the restaurant staff because of her place of employment and her link to President Donald Trump.

Owner, Stephanie Wilkinson

This picture of the restaurant Owners wearing pink p*ssy-hats explains a lot. Not surprised, then. Also, I've read that the lady-owner is Meryl Streep's cousin.  Whoa. Doubly not surprised for her actions!

ETA, this type of harassment makes me angry:

Governor Mike Huckabee said Monday on the Laura Ingraham Show that even after Red Hen restaurant owner Stephanie Wilkinson threw his daughter Sarah Sanders out because she worked for President Donald Trump, she also stoked a protest at a nearby business where some of Sanders' party had relocated.  Huckabee said while Sanders' family dined across the street, Wilkinson followed them to the restaurant and harassed them there.  "The owner of the Red Hen called people and organized a protest, yelling, and screaming at them from outside the other restaurant and creating this scene," Huckabee said. -- Breitbart, Instagram

Who can change a heart but God alone. Prayed for them (especially for the son).  Pray for the Lord God to intervene in their misery-creating lives, Christian friends!  Don't forget Meryl.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:16, 17)

Breakfast/Brunch at the Westin Hotel

My niece got married this weekend.  Her reception was held at the Westin Hotel, Northwest. She married into a fine family: for example, her new sister-in-law (who will also be tying the knot soon), paid for the buffet  breakfast (or brunch for those who woke up late) on the morning after the wedding reception for some wedding guests. At $15 a pop, it was not cheap. We were given the entry tix by her mom-- my sis -- and thus became one of the select few.  Although it was not as convenient to us as those who stayed at the hotel who need only to go downstairs, we were more than willing to get up early and drive the 20 minutes it took on the expressway to partake of the free meal.

Many who were present were related to us. Lots of laughter, hugs, and picture-taking. The workers were helpful and pleasant; the place was clean. Food items were delicious and replenished quickly.  Again, it was FREE for the seven members of my family. We were in hog-heaven for over 2 hours.
