As far as aesthetics go, copper is easily the most versatile member of the metal family. A March report from the National Institutes of Health revealed that COVID-19 is detectable for only up to four hours on copper, compared to two or three days on plastic and stainless steel. In a time when touching doorknobs feels, well, risky, this news has us considering making simple swaps in the future. And we’re not the only ones.

According to a September New York Times story, Manhattan real-estate developers, like Gotham Organization and Kuafu Properties, are updating their appliances, hardware, and even workout equipment with copper-based upgrades. (Alchemy, for one, went with antimicrobial barbells, dumbbells, weight machines, and kettlebells from Black Iron Strength.) If you live in a house or if your building manager hasn’t quite caught on to the data, switching our your metals is an easy fix you can tackle on your own. Kitchen Renovation: Farmhouse Apron Copper Sink

I wanted a farmhouse sink from the get-go: large in size (big enough to accomodate a shih-tzu dog if need be, lol), has an old yet modern look, and currently desirable/popular.  

This gorgeous copper farmhouse sink we found languishing on the clearance shelf at Menards fit the bill. I admit that we went back and forth on it for a little while because it was a final-sale item. We had never before owned such a large item in copper. What's wrong with it that it was returned and had already gone thru 2 markdowns?  What are copper's pros and cons? Will it last, does it clash, can our yet-unordered kitchen cabinets accommodate its size?  Glad we took the risk of spending hundreds of $$ as reading up on the subject later reassured us of copper's lasting beauty and strength.  We love it!

Floor & Wall Mirror: Out With the Old, In With the New

Walls  were torn down for an "open concept" space. Change -- even good ones -- can at times be difficult. We will miss the old, full-height mirror that has withstood our busy household and faithfully reflected our family's various fashion and hair do's over the years.  Pup Bubbles remembers.  

But the room brightens up and seems larger... and we still love mirrors.  Thank God for resale shops. Out with the old large mirror, and in with the new.
