How They Are Spending Their Christmas Break

I miss these two.
So does Mister B. They are at the Camp/Conference/Retreat Center for the week. Serving the Lord by working very hard for little money and putting in long, long hours. But it's worth it. They are part of a much-needed Kitchen Staff, cooking and feeding 350+ Attendees. Learning to go beyond what they can gain financially from the experience; to putting the needs of others first (many are fellow Christians).  Ministering to the Body of Christ. Faith in action. The fruit of the Spirit for all to see. To God be the glory!

Working ragged

Texts while son was working as full-time Head Cook at Summer Camp, WI

J: So...my belt just broke...wanna buy me a new one? my pants won't stay on

Me: Use a rope. Ask Denay for one.

J:Right, like that wouldn't look trashy.  I'm head cook, mum. I need to look respectable

Me: You are behind the counter...No one sees you...You are not allowed to date, anyway

J: Uh...I am quite regularly asked to speak to the guests, especially when obsessive parents and dangerous food allergies are involved

Me: All right, if a rope is not good enough for you, go ahead and buy a Walmart belt

J: Yay...Uh...mind if I hit up Target instead?

Me: Whose car are you driving?

J: Camille's; mind if I buy $7 flip flops? Thank ye

Me: What happened to the ones we just bought you?!

J: They...broke

Snake Snack Time

Meet Fluffy the Boa Constrictor; plus an un-named, hungry Corn Snake.  Camille (and AJ)  partook in a snake feeding class at the Nature Center at Camp.  I feel slightly disturbed by the pictures of the innocent baby Gerbils.  Born to be eaten alive...imagine that!

ouch

The audience/class (feeling pity for the gerbils, I'm sure)

Honor Cabin @ Summer Camp in Wisconsin

To be bestowed the  Honor Cabin  award meant a cabin (and the Campers who reside therein) got the most points for being the cleanest/most organized cabin during the entire week of camp...along with possessing other sterling qualities.  They were judged on a daily basis by two, qualified, impartial judges --- the Camp nurses.

Congrats to Cabin Number 11 -- AJ's cabin!  The other boys were Nathanael, Micah, Chase, Noah, Christian, John, Clayton, and Luke.  Their counselor was Terence Jackson (in white cap).
Note that 3 of the 9 boys are from our Chapel in Elgin. *Ahem*

Remember!

Summer 2010 Teen Employment

Jared & Camille are now at Camp; and have made a commitment to working there all through camp season 2010.  God bless them with safety and success, with no missing body parts nor burns.  Here  they are goofing off, as usual, with my bag in hand:

They're Baaaack! Take 3 : Bear, Friends & Co-workers @ Summer Youth Camp

Always-generous AJ bought Farrah, using his own camp money (!), the cute Stuffed Bear below. More camp pictures taken during the Closing Ceremony. And photos of Jared's fellow Camp Workers during their lunch break.

They're Baaaack! Take 2 : Interesting Heads, Ducks & Nature Center

Below are a couple of memorable camp staff members: One had an interesting Head/Haircut; the other was the Head Cook --- a fellow in tip-top shape who expected the same from his staff (he'd request push-ups). His meals were thoroughly enjoyed by both AJ and Jared. The next set of pictures was of the table next to ours at the Camp Canteen. The family was to take home two, orphaned ducks. Bottom picture shows a scene from the Camp's Nature Center -- home to many animals.

They're Baaaack! Take 1 : Closing Ceremony, Canteen Food & the Beach

The Closing Ceremony at the Youth Camp was at 10:00 AM sharp! There was moderate to heavy traffic, and one non-functioning traffic light in Woodstock. Thus, we didn't get to the camp till 10:15.

Pictures of the ceremony to follow. Below are LG Beach scenes taken from the car 'coz we couldn't stop; and Jared's fellow staff members at the Camp Canteen where we had our (non-healthy) lunch of Pepsi, Nachos with melted cheese and peppers, and ice cream. Yummy!
