Study: Right-wing People are Better-looking

Research has found that being attractive influences many things in a person's life -- their salary, their popularity and grades in school, even the prison sentences they receive. So why not their politics?

A recently published study in the Journal of Public Economics concludes that the attractiveness of a candidate does correlate with their politics. They find that politicians on the right are more good looking in Europe, the United States and Australia.

The study shows correlation, not causation, but the researchers float a simple economic explanation for why this might happen. Numerous studies have shown that good-looking people are likely to earn more, and that people who earn more are typically more opposed to redistributive policies, like the progressive taxes and welfare programs favored by the left.

The researchers also offer a more general psychological explanation for the trend: That good-looking people are often treated better than others, and thus see the world as a more just place. Past studies have found that the more attractive people believe themselves to be, the lower their preference for egalitarianism, a value typically associated with the political left.

In their first experiment, the researchers showed respondents photographs of political candidates in Finnish municipal and parliamentary elections, members of the European Parliament, U.S. candidates for Senate and governor, and candidates for Australia's House of Representatives. They asked participants to rate the photographs on a five-point scale. The results suggested that politicians on the right are more beautiful on all three continents.

In a separate experiment, the researchers analysed elections in Finland. They say these elections are easier to study because most races feature multiple candidates competing for office -- in contrast to races in the United States, which typically have just two major candidates.

The researchers found that Republican voters care more about appearance than Democratic voters do, but only if the voters don't have much information about the candidates and have to rely largely on appearance -- in city-level elections, for example.

But in elections that give voters a lot of information -- like parliamentary elections when candidates are well covered by TV news and in the newspaper -- politicians' appearance matters equally to voters regardless of party or ideology.

In low-information city elections, a beauty increase of one standard deviation attracts about 20 percent more votes for the average candidate on the right and about 8 percent more votes for the average candidate on the left, the study finds. In high-information parliamentary elections, the figure is roughly 14 percent for candidates on both the left and right.

The researchers also suggest that voters correctly see candidates who are more good looking as more likely to be conservative. When voters don't know much about candidates, they tend to use beauty as a cue for ideology.

US Electoral College: Who will be the 45th President of the United States?

As the date of the Electoral College's voting approaches (December 19th 2016), here is one of the saner/clearer FB posts on why the EC members are not likely to be swayed to change their votes from Donald Trump to Hillary Clinton:

I understand that many people are afraid, hurt, confused, and sorrowful following the results of Tuesday's election. I do not seek to invalidate those feelings, But there is a reality that needs to be faced:

Donald J. Trump will be the 45th President of the United States.

It is time to stop coming up with these pipe dreams of somehow preventing this. Our democracy has spoken. These are the results.

There are two things which are not going to happen that are circulating all over social media with little to no research involved, prompting thousands of petition signatures and shares. If you took high school Civics you learned about all this, and ought to know better.

1. You will not sway the Electoral College by signing a petition encouraging "Faithless Electors". Each state has two slates of electors, chosen in advance by each campaign via their State Party. You become an elector by essentially being a "Super Volunteer". When a candidate wins a state, it's their slate of electors that go to the Electoral College meetings. Meaning the Electors voting for Trump are among his most diehard supporters. They spent hundreds of hours campaigning for him and were honored with being selected as an elector, what makes anyone think they'll change their mind now? If nothing that he said before changed their opinion of him, what do you think he'll do between now and December 19th that would actually cause his biggest fans to turn away?

2. Trump will not be impeached or impeded from taking office. The lawsuits against him, including the rape case, are civil. He faces no criminal charges. This doesn't necessarily prevent impeachment, but it does make it harder. There is some legal debate about what is an impeachable offense. If there were an effort to impeach him on the Trump University or Trump Foundation case, it could go to the Supreme Court to determine whether that even is "Impeachable", but it would be after he tilts the court to the right. and look, even if Chief Justice Roberts ruled with the Liberals on the bench and they rule that Congress CAN impeach Trump, think about who controls congress...

Like it or not, Donald Trump IS your President now. Hash-tagging and protesting that he isn't only intensifies the divide that got us here today. If Trump terrifies you, your energy ought to be focused on rebuilding. If we had listened to our fellow citizens, maybe we would have had a better understanding of Trump's strength. Maybe we would have known to work harder in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Where people are hurting and fearful for their future.

We need to get out of our bubbles and dialogue with our fellow Americans to learn why they voted for Trump. Maybe we can learn where we went wrong, and build Parties that work for them and include their narratives, rather than silencing them.

Don't unfriend them, instead get coffee with your family member who voted for Trump, learn why they are hurting, why they mistrust Washington and start organizing and running for offices up and down the ballot with the same vigor with which you supported Clinton, Bernie, or another Republican. That is how we move forward, that is how we unite, that is how we begin to address the racism, nationalism, sexism, and xenophobia of Donald Trump.

We need to begin the process of moving forward as Americans.

Just like Secretary Clinton asked us to.

Donald Trump and our Hyundai Sedan

The election of Mr Trump as President of the United States  and our new-to-us HYUNDAI car each entered our lives within a short span of time of each other.

Each situation  evokes  HOPE.  

We are thrilled Mr Trump hit  the goal of 270 electoral votes. We have not felt this excited in 8 years.  Likewise, though our  used car is older, and has logged many miles, and does not have every gadget, it does have predominantly good reviews.  May our lemony-years be behind us.

Not very many XG350Ls are on the road as it was made by Hyundai for only  two years some time ago. However, we managed to catch a glimpse of one in our neck of the woods, though not the luxury version that we own,  just before it very quickly accelerated and disappeared from view. Yep, this model moves rather quickly compared to our former American-made car.

Mr Trump is supposedly very wealthy.  We can partake of that lifestyle with our LUXURIOUS ("the poor man/woman's Mercedes") albeit lacking-in-gadgets automobile when compared to our other car: a spartan, cookie-cutter yet ever-popular, Toyota.

So, the car's rarity (will there be replacement parts available as the years go by?) and Mr Trump's lack of political experience nag us a little. But with risks come potential for great rewards. We'll take the unknown over same ol' same ol' -- be it our choice of car, or for whom we vote. However, we will pray -- harder than ever, and more  often than ever.

Trump blew her out of the water in rural areas of the states and where she got most of her votes were in the big inner cities because of the diverse demographic. In Illinois for example Trump lost the total popular vote obviously so Clinton won the state and electoral votes, but when you break it down Trump won about 90 counties vs Clinton's 12 counties. But the urban communities decided who won the state because of the diverse nature of the areas. The idea is that there are so many more people in and around urbanized cites they out number rural areas. It wouldnt make any sense to vote more for one candidate in your state but a couple highly populated cities on the other side of the country with opposite views and beliefs decide who your president will be. Even with the electoral college Trump still lost Illinois even though he won 90 counties out 102. Why? Because Clinton accumulated most of her votes in and around Chicago and Cook county and other cities that have very high population. Though there were other counties she won but he won most of the counties by far and it still wasn't enough to win Illinois. Now just think if the election was based on the national popular vote, the largely populated states and cities would basically decide who our Country's President would be no matter if every single person in your state voted for the other candidate. That's not fair is it? Your state wouldn't have any say so. So with the electoral college it encourages the candidates to travel to every single state instead of just going to a few big cities to clinch masses of voters to win. With electoral college they have to strategically win every states majority approval to win their electoral votes and then move on to win majority approval in another state until they collect 270 electoral votes to win the presidency. Every state has a set amount of electoral votes based on how many representatives they have for their state in the house of congress. The amount of representatives in a state is based on population, California has the highest population and thus has the most representatives (House reps 53, Senate reps 2) 55 and that corresponds to how many electoral votes they have. If the election was based off a popular vote California, Texas, and New York state could basically elect the president for the other 47 states based off of population alone."

Now I can comfortably post this. Below is my friend's FB electoral college/election prediction  that he had made on November 5, 2016 --- 3 days before the US General Elections.  I thought him supremely overconfident, though I secretly hoped that he was accurate. Still, I was doubtful enough to deliberately not "like" it.  No one did.  

He was not 100% accurate (he missed on  his home-state of Colorado, and Nevada).  Nonetheless,  his Mensa-like mind served him well.

I have read that many professing Christians have said they are not going to vote for Trump, allowing Clinton to rise to power, because they want God to judge America. Is there such acrimony against sinners that Christians are willing to sink the ship in order to kill the rats? I am compelled to shine the light of Scripture on those whose hearts are so hard against sinners that they are willing to sacrifice our children to punish sinners.
When Abraham was informed that God was going to bring judgement on Sodom, a city filled with homosexuals, adulterers, and violence, Abraham pleaded with God to spare them. When Jonah was told to go to Nineveh and call them to repentance, he took a ship in the opposite direction because he wanted God to judge Nineveh. Judgement came on Jonah alone as he was swallowed by a whale. When he was finally constrained enough to go to Nineveh and his reluctant preaching provoked them to repentance, thus staying the judgment of God, Jonah sat down on a hill above the city and pouted. God interrupted his sulking with, “And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?” (Jonah 4:11). The entire book of Jonah is a statement about the mercy of God compared to the self-righteousness of his prophet.
It is so easy to ascend the hill of righteousness and look back down on the awful sinners. The disciples grew vengeful when they saw sinners acting like sinners. “And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village (Luke 9:54–56). The Christians who would fail to vote because they “want to see God judge America” do not know “what manner of spirit they are of.”
Christians seem to be ignorant of the fact that God’s judgment comes on those with the most light. “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” (1 Peter 4:17).
The sinners won’t be carried into Babylon captive; the innocent children will be.
The judgment will come in a form that takes away Christian liberty and forces children to become part of the secular state. The judgment that believers are welcoming is their own suffering, not the sinners on whom they wish evil. The godless state will be strengthened. Families will suffer while the state celebrates its victory over all that is holy and pure.
When your children are forcibly taken from your home and placed in government care and sent to a school where they are encouraged to have same gender sex and change their sex on a whim, when babies are killed as they come out of the womb, and all vestiges of Christianity are wiped from their minds, and the secularists celebrate their victory while you try to scratch out a living in a war torn country where taxation prevents prosperity, you will remember that you wanted judgment and you bought it with your vote. If you fail in your responsibility to vote against the hellish Hillary, it will not be God’s judgement; it will be your judgement upon the children of America.

Election and the Christian

Our nation stands at a dangerous crossroads in this coming election. History reveals that national judgments which brings misery and suffering come from two hands—the hand of God who deems it best for the people to suffer so they will turn back to him, and the hand of men who through their actions and political policies design their own destruction.

I fear that time has finally come for America to reap what it has sown. Of course, we expect nothing of unbelievers; the Christians are marching us to judgment. The freedom to homeschool, the right to bear arms, the freedom to worship and proclaim Bible truth, the freedom of speech and assembly, and all the great things we have enjoyed about America may soon be snatched away. Judgment must begin at the house of God (1 Peter 4:17).

November 8th is the day of reckoning, and many Christians are blinded by their pride.

The Old Testament provides a window into how God relates to his people, what he tolerates and what will cause him to bring national judgment on a people—the guilty and innocent alike.

There are two things that provoke God to judge a nation. The Old Testament provides abundant examples of judgment falling on those who “dash their children, and rip up their women with child” (2 Kings 8:12). God commanded the total genocide of the Canaanites race because they offered their children in sacrifice. Hillary Clinton promises that she will appoint justices who will support partial birth abortions.

The second thing that stirs God to wrath is homosexuality. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah is famous for its bold declaration that God hates homosexual acts (Genesis 18-19). Romans Chapter One reveals the mind of God when it declares that not only those who do acts of homosexuality warrant death from God, but those who take pleasure in watching others perform same sex acts also deserve death. Every man, woman, boy and girl who have taken pleasure in movies or pornography of same sex acts are worthy of death (Romans 1:32). Hillary Clinton has promoted not only the equal rights of Sodomites, but she has denied the rights of the rest of us to reject that lifestyle as evil. Under a Clinton regime, through the Supreme Court Justices she appoints, the church will lose it liberty to preach and live by the Word of God.

The next president of the Unites States, through the appointment of Supreme Court Justices, is going to open the door to baby killing and normalization of homosexuality even further, or is going to appoint justices who stay the advance of the two things that provoke God to terrible judgment.

This November 8th the people of this United States will chose one of two viable candidates to lead this nation deeper into that which will bring judgment or may stay the hand of wrath a little longer. There is no third party candidate that has any chance to take the helm. Many Christians say they will not vote for the narcissistic Trump because he is a great sinner. A great sinner he is, as are many political leaders. God chose the wicked unbeliever of Nebuchadnezzar to be the king of Babylon, saying to him, “Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory” (Daniel 2:37).

Likewise God chose the wicked king Cyrus of Persia to be his instrument in delivering the children of Israel, saying of Cyrus, “He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure” Isaiah 44:28–45:3.

Samson, with his philandering and groping, is no doubt the poorest example of a supposed Believer found in the Bible. Yet God chose him to protect the righteous. And Samson is listed in Hebrews 11 among the heroes of the faith.

Some of the founding fathers of our nation were unbelievers, yet we honor them, for God used them to establish the greatest nation on earth.

I have pondered the strange phenomenon of Christians choosing not to vote for a man who has clearly denounced abortion more than most any man, who has ever run for office, and who supports our Christian freedoms. My conclusions are sad. I do believe that Christians are frustrated with the state of the church and the lack of conviction. The day of power is long gone. Preachers are wimps, and there is no man to lead us back to God. In the absence of a prophet to lead the church, Christians have placed their hope in political figures. In short, we are looking to a politician to save us. The occasional evangelical believer who runs for office has never gained sufficient traction to get close to taking the commanding seat in the White House. I believe Christians are rejecting Trump because he does not fulfill the role of Moses or the Apostle Paul. He is an unholy man who is disgusting in his manner and lifestyle, but his political positions would be appealing if they came from a professing Christian gentleman whose life was above approach. So in the name of “holding to my principles” many Christians are cutting off their children to spite the up-turned noses on their faces. Not voting for Donald is a vote for more abortions, the end of homeschooling, the policing of religious speech in churches and public forums, the termination of the right to bear arms, and much, much more.

A vote for Trump is not an endorsement of the man; it is sadly the only option to prevent a great leap into an anti-Christian Supreme Court.

Finally, there is a truth in Scripture little spoken of: When God is ready to judge a nation, he actually sends strong delusions that people will believe a lie and act contrary to their own best interests. It may be that many of my blinded friends have succumbed to the delusion that “standing on principle” will somehow work to their good. Like it or not, every election since George Washington has been a choice between the lesser of two evils. There is one principle to be applied to close friends and pastors, and another to be applied to the corrupt world of politics.

It may be that the time has come for God to judge America, end homeschooling, put homosexuals in our church pulpits, and strip us of our civil rights. If so, the delusion that entangles so many may be of God’s doing. Personally, I could not live with the guilt of not voting for Trump and allowing Clinton to become the minister of God’s judgment upon my family and friends. When it all hits the fan, I want to know that it is not my fault. I was not deluded.

Finally again, it is entirely possible that Trump could be the minister of judgment upon us. He could get us into a world war. But I can only go with what I know, not what might be, and I know from what she stands for that Clinton is against all that is wholesome and the constitution.

Clinton did not "pull back", if she is as smart as many allege she pulled back for only one reason: she knew that any attack leveled would result in further, much more egregious attacks from Trump.

A prime example of this is when she responded to Trump's assertion concerning the 33,000 emails she deleted, and that she was basically useless as a Senator and as Secretary of State, she responded with, "I'm very proud of what I achieved...we brought awareness to women's rights, etc, etc:  in general a demonstrably vacuous response.

Her failures and missteps clearly outweigh and overshadow any victories during her tenure in politics. Everyone knows this, as does she...obviously. One of the 'undecided' participants said it best at the analysis after the debate, when asked what he thought of Hillary's performance he responded with, "Same-o, same-o".

In my opinion this preoccupation with something vulgar that Trump said over a decade ago was nothing more than propagandist tripe intended to apply pressure in the hopes that Trump would drop out of the race. CNN's premature ejaculation that Pence had dropped out is another example of this. And concerning the conversation with his, "locker room banter"; is this the best they can do? I think it may have had the opposite effect.

Anyone who thinks that this type of 'banter' doesn't take place amongst men on a general and regular basis suffers from a general delusion: that we are NOT imperfect beings, that we HAVE evolved beyond the constraints of our physicality (genetic and predispositions inculcated by a liberal society and educational system), and that anyone who engages in this type of banter is somehow less-human, in spite of the fact that the expression is never acted out (as Trump asserted when Cooper asked if he had ever done those things: "No I have not"). Generally speaking most men (and women) can identify with that. Go to a male-revue (Chippendales anyone?) and survey the women there ("size doesn't matter"?).

Typically these types have suppressed the fact that they contain the same physicality and predispositions but instead cling to the notion (based on a false piety) that they are somehow "better" than others simply because they scoff and degrade those that recognize their inalienable right to be flawed (aren't we all?). They are moral busybodies who actually / sincerely believe that they know better how people should be, think, and feel, and that they have the solution on how to make these 'lesser' people think, feel, and act the way they do. All the while rationalizing their own failures (just as Hillary did: "it was a mistake").

This is antithetical to the concept of 'diversity', and it is how 'sheeple' are created. It is how tyrannies are created. It is how populations are subjugated. We are already too far down that road now. What any politician "says" is irrelevant, it is exactly this ideology that has resulted in (fundamentally) our current caste system with politicians as the ruling elite for a handful of puppet masters intent on maintaining their personal power and wealth, and still desiring yet more. If nothing else; Trump's rhetoric demonstrates this: I am 'owned' by nobody. Hence his appeal.

Look at the response of Hillary to the muslim's woman's concern: "We need to welcome our Muslim friends, this is not a war on Islam." Really?

This comment has the superficial well intentioned meaning of tolerance towards those who are different. Yet it completely ignores the lessons of history. Muslims have been fighting holy wars for Islam for the past ~1500 years. It. Is. Their. Way.

Under their rule infidels were murdered, children raped, women tortured, arabic only was spoken, sharia law usurps any and all local laws, only infidels pay taxes, and only muslims were allowed to bear arms (historical fact). If we are being attacked (and we are) on our own soil Trumps response was the ONLY reasonable response: a ban on immigration until a viable solution is found for robust vetting and verification. It may not be PC, and it may not be the 'best' solution, but at least it makes sense.

I think that most people believe Trump may well be our last hope at turning the corner back to the America we have all envisioned: globally respected, prosperous, united, and the land of opportunity. Past administrations (blue & red) have brought us to the brink. We can make America great again with the right leadership. The way this will be accomplished will not be by Trump as president, but through Trump placing competent leaders in positions to affect positive change, in the direction that most Americans (red & blue) actually want to go. I believe he will do THAT.

US General Election 2016: No Charisma

Laugh of the day!

In spite of Trump's weaker performance in the first debate, most online polls said that he won the debate. This is because the enthusiasm level of his supporters is unparalleled. His support of around 40-45% is solid. Clinton's solid support is much lower...perhaps in the mid 30's. This is evident on their rallies. Trump usually have several thousands in attendance. Hillary's rally averages around 500 - 1000 supporters.

There are still many events that are coming that will hurt Hillary:

1) Wilkileaks will be releasing her hacked emails just before election

2) Continued email and Clinton foundation investigations will continue to embarrass her

3) There are several economic and political events that are worrisome:

   a) The stock market hit some major resistance and has stalled
   b) Deutsche Bank, Germany's largest may go bust
   c) China's economic bubble may burst before election
   d) Syria has escalated the war with Russia and Iran's backing

4) Hillary just does not have the charisma to excite her base. Most people are voting for her because of their dislike of Trump rather than their "like" for her.

5) Trump has more support from the black community and independents than Romney, McCain or Bush.

On a more sobering note:

While waiting for my mom who was in a "Gentle Fitness " class, a couple of seniors, a lady and a gentleman, were arguing about Hillary. I jokingly stepped in to separate them as their arguments were getting too loud. She was a Hillary die-hard and he was a Trump "deplorable". I explained to them that at this point in the election...all the supporters of both camps are fully entrenched. There is nothing that any of them can say that would change the other person's mind. This election has both candidates support at around 40% a piece. The battle is for the remaining 20%. -- WP

Sign of the [Future] Times?

Your political leanings will likely determine how you'll react to my picture.  To a Liberal this is meaningless, but his feelings of fear/discomfort simply won't go away as he ponders the current political climate from his seat of scorn.  Surely the uninformed masses must see Trump as he/she sees him --- stupid, dangerous, too rich, all flash but no substance, and a misogynistic meany.

 A Conservative may see this as a glorious "sign from above" (LoL!) -- further proof that sitting on Trump's successful billionaire coattails is the way to go.  Surely the return of the bright, good ol' glory days is just around the corner with Trump in charge!  

For me, I am still pondering for whom I'll vote. This one thing I do know: I will keep my run-of-the-mill cell phone a while longer. It's low on features, but adequate in its picture-taking ability when used outdoors.
