Man Robbed of $500, 000 Watch in Beverly Hills

Nice watch! I had never heard of this high-end brand until reading the article the day after the incident.  With the publicity generated by the daring robbery, the Richard Mille brand just gained many thousands of fans worldwide, that's for sure.

Biltmore House In North Carolina

 The currrent "owner" of this stunning Châteauesque-style mansion, William A. Vanderbilt Cecil, recently passed away  (August 17, 1928 – October 31, 2017). I'm happy to have visited this lovely estate with hubby and our youngest kids in the recent past.  
What drew my attention:  The sheer size of the bachelor-pad house; two large John Singer Sargent paintings, and at least one Monet; humongous dining area (42 feet wide by 72 feet long, and a 70-foot high ceiling) with 3 fireplaces and a two-story library with gorgeous, painted ceiling; electrically lighted (very rare back in the day) basement swimming pool plus a bowling alley.

William was the grandson of  George Washington Vanderbilt II who purchased the estate and built the home in 1888.

William was the 2nd cousin of fashion designer/actress, Gloria Vanderbilt ;  and thus is also related to anchorman, Anderson Cooper.

Biltmore House is located on Biltmore Estate, Ashevlle NC.  It is the largest, privately owned house in the USA (@ 178,926 square feet or 16,622.8 meters of floor space).

Shangri La, Hawaii: Doris Duke's Mughal Garden

More views of the Mughal Garden at Doris Duke's estate in Honolulu. Note the presence of the elements that would make up a Mughal-style garden (though her garden is a lot smaller): water, illuminated niches, walls, a central waterway, lotus shaped fountains, geometrically-shaped planters; and of course, overall beauty and peacefulness.  My visit to the estate was on a very warm day, and the sight of the water had me grabbing my water bottle for a long sip.

The courtyard below is where tourists are dropped-off by the Hawaiian MOA shuttle bus. Tours to Shangri La are conducted Wednesday to Saturday;  at 9am, 10:30am and 1:30pm.  Cost is $25 general admission to the tour, and includes entry to Honolulu MOA. Note:  ONLINE BOOKING way in advance highly recommended.
