Robert G Bone Scholarship

Remembering the faithfulness of God in providing for Kristi during her senior year in college.  Thank God for giving us such a talented daughter.

Fourteen students at Illinois State University have been chosen as Robert G. Bone Scholars for the 2008-2009 school year, according to Honors Program director Kim Pereira.

The Bone Scholarship, the highest university-wide honor given to undergraduate students, includes a monetary award from the Bone Scholarship endowment.  Pictures of the recipients are displayed in the Bone Student Center, and their names are engraved on a plaque displayed permanently there.  The 14 new Scholars will be introduced to University administrators, the selection committee, and to current and alumni Bone Scholars during a May 3rd luncheon.  In the fall, they will be recognized at the University’s Scholarship Awards Ceremony.

The scholarship is named in honor of the late Robert G. Bone, president of Illinois State from 1956-1967.  Bone Scholars are selected through a rigorous campus-wide competition on the basis of their scholarly achievements and their engagement and leadership in activities, in the university community and beyond.  Invited finalists submit a comprehensive portfolio including several essays and statements, a project, and five letters of recommendation.  The mean grade point average of this year’s Bone Scholars is 3.96 on a 4.0 scale.

The selection committee consisted of Beverly Barham, Cyndee Brown, Victor Devinatz, Patricia Olsen, Debbie Shelden, and Wendy Woith of the Illinois State faculty; current Bone Scholar Jennifer Hitt; Alumna Bone Scholar Patricia Berndt; Foundation Association representative Peg VanMeter; and Alumni Association representative Darrel Sutter.

The new Bone Scholars, and their majors, are Sarah Beth Albers of Freeport, a Special Education major; Patrice Elaine Baumhardt of Springfield, a Biological Sciences major;  Michelle Elizabeth Carroll of East Moline, a Family and Consumer Sciences major; Christine Marie Doman of Downers Grove, a Communication Studies major; Kristiana Joy Escobar of Hanover Park, a Music Therapy major; Jack Glenn Fombelle of Atwood, an Agriculture major; Amelia Christine Gould of Rapid City, a Biological Sciences/Communication Studies double major; Jenna Nicole Grider of East Peoria, a nursing major; Tara Sue Hohulin of Normal, an English Education major;  Molly McSherry Keith of Park Ridge, a special education major; Lindsey L. Miller of Normal, a Theatre major; Robin Faye Mina of Gurnee, a Special Education major; Amy Marie Sudhoff of Highland, a Chemistry Education major; and Sarah Lyn Trautwein of Wheaton, a French Teacher Education major.

My, my, how time flies.  Kristi was about to finally get out of State U. and soon to begin her internship (which eventually led to her first full-time job in her field of study).   I hope she takes to heart Romy's wise response:

Hi

Extremely busy day today.  The usual classes, practicum, piano lesson,
practice.  It was rather sad, too, to realize that today was: 1) My last
practicum session EVER.  I'm done with practicum, after 5 semesters of
hard work.  Whew! I'm glad I ended on a good note, with a  
great partner and a good experience; also, 2) My last piano lesson.   
I've been taking piano lessons seriously since I was 7 - it's a little
weird to think it's over.  Modos seemed sad.  It's not the last time I
see him this semester (there's still masterclass and jury), but it's the
last lesson I'll have with him.  That's hard to believe, after 4.5 years
under his teaching.

Lots to do this week.  I can't believe it's the last week of classes.   
There's still a lot to do, and only the next 2 weeks to do it.   
Because I opted to take the constitution exam instead of taking a
politics class that would affect my GPA, I have to do that before
graduating next December.  I also have to do a piano proficiency exam
(for some reason that I don't understand) before the semester is
through.  Hmm.  But, I did get a letter from Dr. Ropp detailing my
internship plan.  My start date is March 2, and the internship goes  
until September 2.  It's official, it's happening, and I'm excited.   
It will be a lot of work, I know, but I think it will help me grow as a
music therapist.

took. I praise the Lord for all His provisions for all your needs. God
is faithful and He will provide and take care of your needs.

College Graduation, Winter 2009

Kristi officially received her Baccalureate Degree from ISU's School of Music on Saturday, December 12, 2009 (though she completed her class requirements last December, 2008).  She graduated with a Magna Cum Laude designation, as an Honors Program Scholar, as a Presidential Scholar, and as a Robert G. Bone Scholarship Recipient (the highest honor bestowed by the University).  Not too shabby for a home-schooled kid.  Thank God for a hard-working, talented Daughter:

By the grace and mercy of God, our DD Kristi just bought herself her first automobile:  a 2008 Mazda 3 Grand Touring car.  Thank You, Lord, for Kristi's job!

Our Daughter, the Magna Cum Laude Recipient

By the grace and mercy of God, our DD Kristi is graduating from college with a  Magna Cum Laude  designation (I must mention that she was only .01 points away from a Summa Cum Laude designation).  Praise the Lord for giving us such a talented, hard-working daughter!  Not bad for a home-schooled kid. I pray that the Good Lord will continue to open the doors of opportunity for Kris; and we give Him all the honor and praise. 

First Day of Kindergarten

 

Delicious Blondies Dessert (did Dagwood name this?)

Blondies
Kristi made these recently.  We ate them ALL!

INGREDIENTS:

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
3/4 cup white sugar
3 eggs
1 egg yolk 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
6 tablespoons peanut butter
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips


Frosting:

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup peanut butter
3 cups confectioners' sugar
1/3 cup milk



DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt; set aside.

2. In a large bowl, cream together 3/4 cup of butter, brown sugar and white sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs and yolk one at a time, then stir in the vanilla and 6 tablespoons peanut butter. Blend in the sifted ingredients and stir in the chocolate chips. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared pan.

3. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs. Cool completely before frosting.

4. To make the frosting, mix the remaining 1/2 cup of butter and 1 cup peanut butter together in a medium bowl. Mix in the confectioners sugar until smooth, then gradually stir in milk until a spreadable consistency is reached. Cut, serve and enjoy!

Let's celebrate Kristi

Kristi's un-official Graduation from College was celebrated at church during Coffee-time last Sunday.  Miss Bee ordered a delicious, fresh strawberry cake for the event. It was even decorated with musical notes.   Mr Steve encouraged her, and prayed for her continued success according to God's will.  Romy allowed himself a proud-daddy moment by mentioning Kris' hard work, excellent grades  (3.8 to 4.0 out of a possible 4.0),  and her many collegiate awards/accomplishments. He even acknowledged my  role in her academic success (thanks, Sweetie).  Thank God for blessing us with our daughter.  Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!

College Graduate: Congratulations, Kristi

From her college days, to today, the Lord God has been gracious to our DD Kristi. It's been a long 5-years, but she has finally completed her Bachelor of Music Degree as of Friday, August 21, 2009. Today, August 24, 2009, begins her career as a Professional Music Therapist. Her graduation ceremony will be held at ISU this coming December 2009, Lord willing. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

DD Kristi is a dyed-in-the-wool Musician. During Jim and Tess' Wedding Reception, she slipped away to the Sam Ash Music Store (tagging along were Camille and Jill). She took a look around, made a few small purchases, and returned to the Banquet Hall about an hour later. When the Wedding Reception party was over, we all made a bee-line to Sam Ash based on her rave reviews. The place IS awesome, and chock-full of all things musical. They even had a private, glass-walled room where customers can oggle/play guitars. The guitars ranged in price from approx. $99 to over 3k.

Fun Festival at Saint Charles & the Fox River

The day began with rain, but by the afternoon, it was gloriously sunny. Kris, Brian, Camille, Jared, and Jill had a wonderful time at the town of St Charles by the banks of the Fox River. Exotic animals (including a 15-foot albino python), dogs, pigs, and rock / face painting were some of the attractions. Aaaaah....Summertime (almost) and the living is easy...
