Songwriter Paul Simon and April, the Frenchie

 pc: wikipedia
Songwriter, Paul Simon, turns 77 years old soon (October 13th).

Mr Simon is, of course, the other half of the phenomenal American Folkrock duo, Simon & Garfunkel . Paul Simon was also once married to actress, Carrie Fisher -- always to be remembered as Princess Leia.

Pretty April, the French Bulldog, belongs to someone in the neighborhood.  Met her and owner for the first time while on our daily dog walk and that day happened to be  April's 2nd birthday. I'd wanted a French Bulldog since reading The Great Grisby by Mikita Brottman. In fact, I am glad that April and Grisby kind of look alike. I had never seen an adult Frenchie till I met April, and they're far cuter than I imagined.

April, the French Bulldog
"April Come She Will" - by Paul Simon

April come she will
When streams are ripe
and swelled with rain
May she will stay
Resting in my arms again
June she'll change her tune
In restless walks she'll prowl the night
July she will fly
And give no warning to her flight
August die she must
The autumn winds blow chilly and cold
September I remember
A love once new has now grown old

International Coffee Day 2018

Aging has its benefits --- for people and for coffee, as studies continue to reveal.  In the world of coffee aficionados, the best flavor comes from beans that have been "monsooned", or stored in an open-air warehouse where the beans are exposed to the tropical elements for approximately 16 weeks.  The added moisture and wind result in a low-acid, full-body brew.  The process mimics shipping methods of the 1600s, when coffee from India travelled to Europe aboard sailing vessels.  The journey took up to six months, with the beans soaking up the moist air.  As shipping methods became faster, coffee got a sharper taste.

Maybe all that natural aging has increased its health benefits too.  Recent medical research indicates that drinking coffee lowers a person's chances of getting colon cancer, gallstones, cirrhosis of the liver, Parkinson's disease, and type 2 diabetes.  Plus, coffee helps control asthma and alleviates headaches.

As it turns out, Americans drink so much coffee that coffee is the number one source of antioxidants in their diet.  Take that, fruits and vegetables.
