Here’s my qualm with really small bathrooms: We console ourselves with the idea that filling the space with splashes of color—typically by way of a “fun” shower curtain—will be a good enough compromise for the lack of square footage. What they don’t tell you is that the moment you hang that vibrantly patterned curtain, you suddenly lose half the room. We never realize the impact something as seemingly insignificant as a solid sheet can have on the visual depth of a small area.

When I moved into my tiny studio, with an equally tiny, square-shaped bathroom, I knew that I had to get creative. Taking a shower, more or less, felt like I was confined to a box with limited light, thanks to the lack of windows and the two lone bulbs meant to illuminate the space...

Quiet Town Home: Bathroom Purchases

I am pleased with a couple of my purchases from Quiet Town Home -- an up and coming husband-and-wife team whose company is based in Brooklyn, New York. Take a look at their unique bath accessory products H E R E. 

My master bath renovation had me in need of some basic items:

To protect my tub's back wall and the floor, I purchased 2 of the Sun Shower Orient Phlox -- I love PINK!

... and a M E N D O C I N O bath mat, also in some pink.  My purchase supported breast cancer research and elicited a nice personal note on a postcard.

Bathroom Renovation: Shower Rod & Color-Blocked Curtain for Free Standing Tub

Other than out-of-the-ordinary tiles, shower curtains draw the eye in an otherwise typical bathroom. I had loved simple, cotton curtains in white or beige for the past few years.  Time for a change!

Here are my 2 inspirations for our recent renovations:

As much as I love my new pair of clear, color-blocked shower curtains, I plan to keep my beautiful cotton shower curtains from Anthro. They're not going to the donation bin just yet.

 The incident occurred in the bathroom, a-la the movie, "Psycho" 

I had something important to tell hubby, so I went into the bathroom where he was taking a late-night shower.  I entered the room as quietly as possible, of course, as the rest of the family was winding down and getting ready for bed. 

Maybe I was a little too quiet. Let's just say that he was startled by the unexpected sight of me as he pushed aside the shower curtain. He instinctively backed-off and his movements became exaggerated as in a slapstick scene, and, get this --- he screamed like a girl! 

Sorry, but his comical-to-me reaction got me laughing and I could not stop. Was he expecting a mass murderer, LoL?! After threats of revenge and with his fingers wagging at me, he said that I had better lock them bathroom doors when it came time for my own shower; and this has convinced him to never ever shower again, so there! And the clincher:  he asked if I really want him to have a heart attack?!  Ummm, okay, that convinced me and the hullabaloo petered off. 

The lesson learned was entered into a file called "How to Avoid Medical Emergencies". I also entered it into another file called "I Gotcha!" and "Joint Spousal Showers May Save A Life and My Marriage". 

Sorry for the fright, my sweetheart.
