Heather Mack -- Suitcase Murderer of Mom -- To Be Let Out of Prison Early

Bali, Indonesia:  I've tried to keep tabs on the young couple since their conviction of the  horrible murder of Heather's mom in 2015.  The boyfriend, Tommy --who did the actual killing while they were  vacationing in Bali in 2014 -- was sentenced to 18 years in prison.  Heather (sentenced for 10 years ) is leaving prison early in October 2021 for good behavior.

To leave their 6 year-old daughter behind in Bali, Indonesia as Heather goes back to the USA (Chicago) is the question.

But there is forgiveness with thee,
that thou mayest be feared. (Psalm 130)

Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Chicago

Mayor L and Ivanka
I am not a resident of Chicago, but I would not have voted for Miss Lightfoot even if I were.  She is a Liberal and a Lesbian -- two things I do not agree with.  I base my decision on the Word of God; and a desire for wisdom/common sense in our country. I pray that it would prevail among our towns and big cities; and those in elected positions.

Links below, as of the date of this writing,  are a couple of examples of why Lightfoot is not the most qualified  of Mayors.

Anyhoo, Happy 🎂Birthday, Mayor Lightfoot (August 4th, 59 years old).

Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate. (Proverbs 24 )

Tulsi Gabbard accused Lori Lightfoot of 'anti-white racism'

LIST: Hubby's Employer Ranking for Yr 2019

My husband's company made it among the Yr 2019 TOP 10 employers (1000+ employees) in the Chicagoland area, hoorah! -- beating-out Comcast (BIL's employer), MacDonald's Corporation,  and Lou Malnati's Pizzeria (what?!!).

Who would not like a company that shuts down during the Holidays so that more family-time could be had, and gives gifts and decent bonus checks?!

Praising God for His provision thru the years.

I Benefited From a Stop at the Trump International Hotel, Chicago

Trump Hotel:  I'd admired the Hotel from afar. Now, we were finally inside its lobby.  I found it surprisingly low-key as far as the presence of uniformed security personnel, but my friend pointed to the many security cameras overhead.

We had gone inside for a badly-needed toilet break.

Across from the co-ed bathroom stood a man -- the only uniformed "security" that I saw.  He may have only been a Bellboy (a kindly one at that) whose  main duty, said he, was to make certain "everything was all right".  My gut feeling was that he mainly watches for homeless people who take advantage of said accessible bathroom.

Feeling much-relief after our comfort-room visit, I blessed Mr Trump. I was convinced more than ever that not only is he good for the American people nationally, he is also beneficial on a more personal level, LoL.

To anyone who lives in the outskirts of a big city such as Chicago, go and visit at least once a year. You may feel as invigorated and appreciative afterwards as we did.

We went on a water taxi tour @ approximately 9:00 pm for a back-and-forth trip on the  Chicago River which ended with fireworks by Navy Pier.  Nice. Chicago is beautiful.  What a skyline!  What a lively Chicago River night-life! We have plans to return, Lord willing; and now have even better ideas as to where to take visiting Guests.

There is a river, the streams whereof
shall make glad the city of God,
the holy place of the tabernacles
 of the most High.

Taxes Wasted: Illinois Keeps Spending Money with High Salaries + Louis Gutierrez & Wife

Examples: Village & City Manager compensations:

City of Chicago Departments pay a lot in overtime
More ...

  • 20,295 teachers and school administrators – including superintendents Joyce Carmine ($398,229) at Park Forest School District 63, Troy Paraday ($384,138) at Calumet City School District 155, and Jon Nebor ($377,409) at Indian Springs School District 109. Four of the top five salaries are in the south suburbs – not the affluent north shore.
  • 10,676 rank-and-file workers and managers in Chicago – including $216,200 for embattled Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) and $400,000 for Ginger Evans, Commissioner of Aviation – including a $100,000 bonus. Timothy Walter, a deputy police chief, made $240,917 – that’s $146,860 in overtime on top of his $94,056 base salary. Ramona Perkins, a police communications operator, pulled down $121,318 in overtime while making $196,726!
  • 9,567 college and university employees – including the southern Illinois junior college power couple Dale Chapman ($465,420) and Linda Terrill Chapman ($217,290). The pair combined for a $682,000 income at Lewis and Clark Community College. Fady Toufic Charbel ($1.58 million) and Konstantin Slavin ($1.04 million) are million-dollar doctors at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
  • 8,817 small town city and village employees – including 84 municipal managers out-earning every U.S. governor at $180,000. These managers include Lawrence Hileman (Glenview – $297,988); Michael Ellis (Grayslake – $264,486); Robert Kiely (Lake Forest – $255,247); Kevin Bowens (Libertyville – $254,428); and Richard Nahrstadt (Northbrook – $250,248).
  • Former Gov. Jim Edgar (R) took $2.38 million in compensation from the University of Illinois (2000-2013) and has received at least $2 million in pension payments earned from his 20-year career as legislator, secretary of state and governor. Today, Edgar receives $241,272 ($20,106 per month) per year from two pension systems: the General Assembly Retirement System ($161,016) and the State University Retirement System ($80,256).
  • Even current Governor, Bruce Rauner (R), is not exempt from spending money as if it grows on trees.  His wife now "works" as a Personal Assistant with a salary of $100,000 courtesy of the State of Illinois.  Will I vote for him in Illinois' Primary Elections next March 2018? Hmmmm....

I continue to admire the couple though (pictured below), especially during the Lincoln Laureate Award Ceremony of our college senior daughter. Mrs Rauner has a nice smile and a firm handshake.  She is a help and not a hindrance to Mr Rauner as far as I can tell.  But at a cost to our state of $100,000 a year?!! Once again, Hmmmmmm ...

    Mario's Italian Lemonade

WARM DAY! This is the first of my two visits so far this year at world-famous Mario's  Italian Ice.

I tend to stick to my order of Cantaloupe .  Hubby is confident that he can make a similar shaved ice dish, and make it even better.  I hope so. Unconfirmed rumor has it that the owner is quite wealthy because of his neighborhood stand;  and winters in Florida when the place closes down for the cooler/colder months.

    there it is!

my sibs and b-i-l in line

come on over, and order already!

a HOT dog also waiting in line

    Graceland , Part 3

Ready for more of Chicagoland's colorful history of its rich and famous citizens through this world-famous tourist spot/cemetery?  Here we go....

Potter Palmer & Bertha Honore Palmer(pic courtesy of Graceland.com)

Potter Palmer (1826-1902)  & Bertha Honoré Palmer (1850-1918). Erected 1921.

I knew a little bit about Potter Palmer through his partnership with Mr Marshall Field.  I had  heard of and seen the Palmer House Hotel, but I've yet to step into its lobby, LOL. Click  here  for more details on their lives.  Surrounding the two huge sarcophagi, beneath the floor, their loved ones are also buried.

    Daniel Hudson Burnham (1846-1912)

Daniel Hudson Burnham (1846-1912), was a world-famous architect and city planner, Click  here  for more detailson his life and accomplishments.  He's quite famous in the Philippines as the planner of  Baguio City , Philippines.  I love the fact that he is buried on his own ISLAND (a-la Diana, former Princess of Wales).

    Inez Clarke

Inez Clark (1873-1880) died at the age of six. She is usually our last stop before we exit the cemetery.  Her monument always makes me feel a little sorrowful, especially after I've had children.  Click  here    for more details on her life and gravesite.

O, death where is thy sting?  O grave, where is thy victory?
The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ
    ~ 1 Corinthians 15:55-57

Just a few blocks away from the cemetery is Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs!  Go, Cubbies!!!

    Graceland Cemetery, Part 2

Here are more pics from our visit to Graceland Cemetery with our out-of-town relatives.  What an extremely interesting place.  Please, enjoy the History lesson. Description and some pictures are from the official Graceland Cemetery website.

Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense  ~ Song of Solomon 4:6
    George Pullman (1831-1897)

A man who won't meet his own men halfway is a damn fool!"
    --Mark Hanna, on George Pullman

George Pullman (1831-97) was the inventor of the Pullman sleeping car. When a Pullman car was attached to the funeral train carrying Abraham Lincoln's body, demand for Pullman's product surged, and the Pullman Sleeping Car Company grew quickly.

George Pullman and architect Solon Beman built the town of Pullman for his employees near 111th street. Pullman joked that the town had been named for both of them: the first syllable of his name, the second syllable of Beman's. The town of Pullman was a planned community, with schools, theaters, library, hotel, all operated by the Pullman Sleeping Car Company.
The monument was designed by Solon Beman and features a towering Corinthian column, flanked by curved benches.  Because Pullman eventually became such a hated employer, he is buried just as, or more securely, than Abraham Lincoln.  It would take an army of bulldozers to exhume him.

    William Kimball (1828-1904)

William Kimball (1828-1904) was a manufacturer of pianos (we own one!).  Kimball's monument is one of the largest in Graceland. Across the rear are four Corinthian columns, with two more on the sides. The structure is without a roof. Below, an angel kneels, watching over the two graves beneath the floor. The entire monument is of white marble, and was erected in 1907 from a design by the architectural firm of McKim, Mead & White.
Much of the original detail has eroded away, most noticeably the face of the angel. On bright days, this monument is more brilliant than any other.

    William Goodman (1848-1936)
    Above, rear view

    Above, front view

Lumber magnate William Goodman (1848-1936) hired architect Howard Van Doren Shaw to design this tomb in 1919 after the death of his son. Lieutenant Kenneth Sawyer Goodman, a playright, died in 1918 of influenza while in Naval training.  Goodman founded Goodman Theater.

The Goodman tomb was built into a hillside on the shore of Lake Willowmere. A concrete platform in front, just above the water level, permits access to the front door. The ground slopes upward away from the lake, and, at the rear of the mausoleum, is level with its roof. Visitors may step onto the roof from the rear, protected by a granite railing on the other three sides. In the center of this railing is a marble panel featuring relief carvings in the classical style. To either side are the words from the Song of Solomon, "Until the Day Breaks and the Shadows Flee Away." (4:6)

The Bible verse is quoted in full at the top portion of today's entry.
