SIU Weekend: Comedian & Starbucks revelation

The last entertainer on Saturday evening was a good-looking comedian named Dan Cummins.  I had never heard of him till the show, though he's become quite famous. Look him up on the internet and see. Well, maybe not famous enough to keep Farrah awake during the show. That left me focused on AJ, who was quite awake and sitting next to me.  We were warned that the show's content was rated PG-13.  Okay, I thought, at least it's not rated R or worse -- the kids can handle it.  Wrong! He made me laugh AND he made me cringe. I couldn't help myself: the guy's timing was perfect & he was very funny. But, oh boy,  did I ever feel nervous during the few times when the material was inappropriate. I kept praying to the Lord that the stuff would go over AJ's head. I think He answered. The poor kid leaned over a couple of times to say What does that mean, Mommy?  Yipes. Nevertheless, I was grateful for the pre-show warning; many places wouldn't even think of giving you that courtesy. Next time, I'd definitely heed it.

Dan may have been funny, but he didn't seem genuinely happy.  And no wonder.  He revealed that after 9 years of marriage and 2 kids, he'd gotten divorced (I was surprised, yet not too surprised --I did notice his lack of a wedding ring when he first got on the stage). Even in today's throw-away society, that must have hurt like hell.  He was my next object of prayer; that the Lord would heal the pain in his soul, and that, if possible, he'd be reconciled to his ex wife.

Look and sense his sadness & exhaustion in the last picture (taken after the show, while he was in line at Starbucks).

The Lord God bless you, Mr Cummins.
