Kitchen Renovation: Kitchen Island Alternatives

I truly like my kitchen island. It was a good choice for us as we removed our kitchen walls to open up our space. Yep, it cost a lot of money $$$. Here are cheaper alternatives per Wayfair

1. A Console Table + Counter Stools

To get the look in a smaller space, add a slim open-bottom console table and bring in a pair of counter-height stools to tuck underneath.

2. A Floating Shelf + Dining Chairs

For off-to-the-side casual seating, hang a wall shelf waist-high to create a countertop.

Then add a pair of dining chairs to complete the look.

3. A Butcher Block Kitchen Cart + Backless Stools

For easy flexibility, bring in a kitchen cart with wheels and pair it with lightweight stools. To free up space, roll it to the side and stack the seating together.

What's better than a hammered-copper farmhouse sink? Or a copper bathtub? Or a copper coin? Why, a kitchen countertop covered entirely in copper, of course!

Kitchen Renovation: Mixing & Choosing Countertop Material

We were back and forth as to what our countertop material should be for our kitchen. Granite's selection and colors are vast. Granite would likely cost us less per our research. My aunt's family home has beautiful granite counters. My sis also currently has granite. It's popular. What to do??

Store samples of either material were inadequate. Had to see life-size slabs. Thus, we went to MSI -- a big showroom for both granite and quartz in 600+ pound sizes (enough to kill an elephant if any slabs toppled over, eek).

Kitchen Renovation: Counter & Bar Stools

pc: Design Within Reach

I sooooo wanted the BACCO counter stools from Design Within Reach, but hubby prevailed. Too expensive! Ended up buying our chairs from Wayfair. I hope these hold up for a long while and remain comfy -- though they're certainly no Italian-made stools.

Note: We've learned that the most comfortable seat height that fits best to our kitchen island is 26-27 inches.
