Kitchen Renovation: Ways We Made Our Kitchen Look and Feel Bigger

The Houzz article has good suggestions that you may be able to incorporate into your old or new kitchen.

Dilemma:  Our kitchen area was approximately 10 by 12 feet in size --not large at all -- cooped up by 2 walls which hid a large window.

How to make our kitchen feel bigger?
We began by  knocking down 2 non-load bearing walls.  Then, we chose our paint and cabinet colors in light/white. No upper cabinetry except for our tall pantry.  The  old kitchen's large "garden view" window turned into two smaller windows because we needed the wall for a stove.  The new skylight became our fifth wall and brightens the room.  We also chose not to have a rolling bar cart cluttering-up the passageway to the backdoor (however, the bar cart remains on my bucket list, LoL).

It worked!!  The formerly cramped kitchen became undefined in size (read, seemed bigger) as it got converted into an open-concept kitchen.  Add that to our decor choices above, and voila --  the eye is convinced the area is more expansive.
