Since my youth, I've been influenced by the music I hear. Andy William's version of "Moon River" has just been played and I want to bawl like a baby. My parents were fans of Mr Williams. The lyrics of the song remind me of two lovers with dreams and hopes and doors of opportunity in front of them -- as my parents did many moons ago. Their marriage, their family life, their three daughters, their decision to move to the USA, their careers --- all were part of their personal "river" on which they journeyed as husband and wife. And now, their trip is over. Their river has run dry. They've reached the end of the rainbow. They're gone and, for the moment, we can not follow.
Moon River, wider than a mile,
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me.
(music by Henry Mancini,
lyrics by Johnny Mercer)
