SS Edmund Fitzgerald: Anniversary of its Sinking

Today is the 34th anniversary  of the freighter SS Edmund Fitzgerald's sudden sinking in Lake Superior during a massive winterstorm.  This incident has stuck to my memory because of the haunting Gordon Lightfoot song;  and  because all hands on board were lost so suddenly and without warning.  The youngest crew member was 20, the oldest (the Captain) was 63. Fathers, husbands, boyfriends, brothers, friends --- each person left a big, gaping hole in the life of a loved one.
