Wouldn't I rather greet people with "Prosperous New Year" instead of "Happy New Year"? A Preacher had recently spoken to a friend from Spain, and found that they greet people during the New Year with the Spanish phrase which translates to a greeting of prosperity. Turns out that this greeting is biblically-based.
What does God say about prosperity? What is His secret to prosperity? It is this, a (conditional) guarantee from the Lord Himself...
Joshua 1:8
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Background: The Israelites, led by Joshua, are now getting ready to enter Canaan. It had been a looong 40 years of wandering in the dessert as a result of their unbelief. A battle is looming. They are commanded to be brave, to meditate on God's law, and to be obedient. The result, especially IF they meditate, is prosperity and good success.
Do I want prosperity and good success? Who wouldn't!! Therefore, I MUST make the Word of God a priority. As I read and memorize His Word, I am to meditate on it....which will lead me to do His will (obey Him)...and the end result is prosperity (spiritual and otherwise) and good success in my life.
